My club (7332, Zug in Switzerland) has an old website which we are getting rid of so we can use the TMI ToastHost 2. Everything was set up for the final steps of mapping our custom domain www.toastmasterszug.ch to the proper place. I changed the DNS records in our domain hosting and only had to make the change in the Admin Console in ToastHost. When i did so I got the following error

***DATA TRANSFER ERROR***
JavaScript Function=StdAdminSaveBtnClick
Status=error
Error=

Please notify us about this at support.toastmastersclubs.org .

I don't know what to do. Our temporary domain zug.toastmastersclub.org now doesn't work so I have no path to getting back into the admin console. And if I do get in I don't understand the exact format for what I should put in the Custom Domain field. Should I include the "http://"? The "www."?

Our site will be unreachable until someone can offer some guidance. Thanks in advance!

You can always access your club using the club number in your url: 7332.toastmastersclubs.org

Once you get in that way you can set your alias to zug and then access your site using your "temporary" domain zug.toastmastersclubs.org (note the "s" at the end of toastmastersclubs )

You can use the alias in conjunction with your custom domain until you are happy that the domain is set up correctly.

Documentation on setting up some custom domains can be found here: support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/dns-settings-overview

Note - don't use www as part of your url - you'll be directed to the support site if you do that.

www is supported for custom domains if it is set up in the DNS records.
www is only unsupported when using the toastmastersclubs.org (or toastmastersdistrict.org) domain to access a website.

Thank you so much for providing guidance so quickly!

I had actually used the DNS instruction document through the whole process and found it very useful.

And it's good to know I always have a backdoor address if something goes wrong.

I've made the adjustment and now everything works perfectly! Our custom domain takes me to our TM site.

I am really happy with the FreeToastHost platform. It is such an improvement for our club. Thank you for building it and supporting it!!!

Warmest Regards

Your DNS settings are still not quite correct. As it currently stands, the FTH email features will not work for you, as you do not have the DNS records set up for your custom domain to support those features.

You do not have an A record set up to map an email related address to the FTH server. (e.g., mail.toastmasterszug.ch )
Your MX records do not redirect email to the address set up by the missing A record.

Please refer to and follow the directions in the following doc:
support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/dns-settings-overview

Ah, that is interesting. Yes, I did not include the last DNS change mentioned in the document because I had intended on creating redirect email addresses with my domain host provider in Switzerland.

I thought the FTH email features were just distribution lists that fed off of the Member Management part of FTH? Or are there more features that I don't understand?

Ok, if you intentionally plan to use a different approach for email, that is fine. (I just thought you overlooked those DNS records.)

It is correct that the FTH email addresses are distribution lists and forwarding email addresses, albeit with some useful enhancements. (e.g. custom group names and system generated convenience lists) Also, you can still use them via the club number form of the addresses even if you choose not to set up the DNS records for email with the custom domain. It is just that the club number version of the email addresses is a bit more cumbersome.
