How would our agenda change for a speech contest? Also for a Speech-a-thon?

You can set up an agenda to do whatever you want. If you have done a speech contest in the past, copy that one, or save it as a default.

Same for a speech-a-thon. regardless of what method you use, save it as a default so you don't have to reinvent the wheel each time.

I don't have a template for either, so I'll be reinventing that wheel.

I created templates for these types of meetings/events for my club. Here are my thoughts on this (sorry for the length):

For a contest, you will have roles such as Ballot Counter that may not appear on a normal Meeting Agenda and you may have a different number of Speakers and/or Evaluators than for a normal meeting. For an Evaluation contest, you will need to consider whether the Test Speaker counts as a speaker like any other speaker or if that is different for the purposes of role history.

You need to keep in mind the techniques for keywording roles with the * and numbered roles (e.g., Speaker #5).

As far as times/durations, I would recommend throwing a Table Topics in near the end (after the official contest portion) with some time just in case you need it. In other words, you could adjust the time of the Table Topics during the meeting or just discard it.

One last thing on contests. I try to be extra detailed on the role descriptions for these agendas so that we do not have to remember much during the contest... In other words, the agenda reads sort of like a script to follow.

For Speech-a-thons, I created a new role called Event Host on the agenda. This is the event organizer or the person holding/leading the event, since we really do not use the Toastmaster role for those events. I intend to lobby my club to have that count as a Special Event Chair for CL credit. You will likely have a lot more Speaker roles for a Speech-a-thon, so keep in mind the numbering.

One last thing to keep in mind. If you use the Multiple Meeting Sign-up sheet, you will notice that these types of special events will kind of "screw up" this sign up sheet when the agendas for these events fall into one of the next five agendas that show up on the Multiple Meeting Sign-up sheet. This is because some roles show up on some of the special agendas that do not show up on others. If you use this sign up sheet, you can always temporarily change the date of the special agendas to be in the past so that they do not show up on the sign-up sheet when you print it. Once it is printed, just change the dates back.

Chuck,

Then, you will need to take an agenda that is close to what you want and modify it.

Overbuild the contestants, but for the contests, you will not need to have the evaluators. For reporting purposes, make sure you use Contestant #1 , Contestant #2 , etc. It is easier to delete what you don't need later than to add on if needed.

Instead of Toastmaster, make a Contest Master.

What is your club number, so we can advise better?

Thanks much Steve. By the way what is keywording roles?
The multiple meeting sigh-up sheet I could simply change in Word - right?

The following explains keyworded roles better than I can:

You can probably change the sign-up sheet in Word, if you wish. I just think it is simpler to temporarily tweak the agenda dates to get what I want to show up on it.
