Hello,

In the effort to comply with the new Canadian anti spam law, I wanted to ask if when sending an email to guests@clubname and prospects@clubname, it provides a link or button to "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the email ?

If not, is it possible to customize an email signature/footer with such a button ?

Thank you,
Alexandre

Thanks for the answer.
Is there a way to see a sample of that email without having to include myself in the guest list ?

The link appended to the body of the email is worded as follows:
Go to the following link/webpage to unsubscribe from this list:
#######@toastmastersclubs.org?unsubscribe=mmmmm-uuuuuu
####### is the club/district number, and mmmmm & uuuuuu are reference numbers that enable us to find the person in our database to complete the action. The url address is designed to show as a link in for most email providers, but they vary in how they actually show the link. The actual link address is displayed, as well, in case the link is not activated by a particular email provider.

We also insert the list-unsubscribe email header section in the email header, which also calls for an alternative email address approach for unsubscribing. (we provide that also) You can find out more about list-unsubscribe here: www.list-unsubscribe.com/ However, not every email provider actually supports that (yet). Inconsistencies between what email providers will and will not support is a big challenge that most people are unaware of, frankly.

Bottom line: As we are already doing a lot to give guests and former members (and other non-members: prospects, and friends) a way to opt out, there would need to be a *very* compelling reason for us to change the way this is put together, since it is constructed to enable it to be useable with the vast majority of email providers. While you may see this as a simple link in an email, there are actually a number of technical challenges that we have had to deal with to get this to actually work correctly in most situations for most email providers.

Brian is very familiar with these unsubscribe-related issues, and I rely heavily on his instincts as to whether anything should be different.
