We use the "Private Member Directory" to hold full address and membership number for our members. When we add a new member
using our admin login, we also log in as a member simultaneously so that we can first "add the new member" using membership management out of the admin console, then go "Edit Private Member Directory" to copy and paste in the address and TI membership number etc. When we try this we have a problem. When we close the admin console after adding a new member, we suddenly
find that our "Member" login has been lost and we have to log in again as a "Member" to edit the personal directory entry. We did NOT
log out as admin, NOR as member, but the "member" login disappeared on closing the admin console. This occurs on all
club websites I manage.

Bill,

Thanks for posting about this. I am sorry that it appears that no one posted a reply.

I have a hunch that when you save the new member in Membership Management it is essentially clearing the login information for the member who is logged in as part of the save process. This is because Membership Management works by resaving *all* members information on every save, including a member who may be logged in. I am thinking maybe the resaving is not keeping the current login info as part of the save--in effect saving an empty login key value over top of the current one in use.

I will look into this for the new code I am working to finish, but I will not likely fix it in the existing 2.11 code, since it will soon be replaced.

Bill,

I went ahead and did a "fix" for the 2.11 code. Can you please see if this is still an issue for you?

Ooops! the Fix blew up. Tested with club 311. Now if I log in as site admin, with or without a personal member login, and launch
the admin console, all looks OK, UNTIL I pull down Membership Management ==> Message.....you are not logged in.... !!!

(Other text in above message about image source, center etc. all displayed where the member list should be.

If you need site login as admin, call me on cell at 703-887-2052 so it does not list here.

Bill, thanks, but since I am the system developer, I can get in anywhere in the system I need to for troubleshooting. ;)

Bottom line, I have checked this on my own club website and on 311. All is working as expected for me (w/ the fix).

Therefore, I recommend the following for you:

1. Click the reload link at the very bottom of the screen to clear your cache and make sure you are not running old javascript from your browser cache.

2. Are your cookie settings correct? You are working with multiple websites and *each* needs a cookie to be set for the system to "remember" your login status.

3. I would suggest to log in and log out once to get everything "reset". You may have an old session key in your cookie, and doing that should clear it.

Whatever was "stale" when it blew up (two different logins), it is OK now, and yes, the "fix" seems to be working too, in that I did not loose my "member" login when I played around with membership management, made changes, closed it and admin console
etc. Thanks a lot for the fix and your patience with whatever stale coffee or such caused the previous blowup.

Once again thanks for the fix of that annoying little glitch. Yes, I am aware that you can 'get anywhere you need to be" as developer, but in my own long history of debugging I have encountered bugs that not only showed up only when a "user" was logged in, but believe it or not, the bug was triggered by the 7th character of that user's PASSWORD! Hence the volunteered use of our actual site admin login and password earlier. Sometimes even the most unlikely circumstances can blow software sky high, which is certainly the case with code based on C or C++ and to a lesser extent, Java ... all three of which languages are often their own best enemies as being bug generators!

Well, we will not settle for C or C++ or even Java when comes to bug generators...

Nooooo, we use Perl on the server for the "full-tilt bug generation experience". I do not know what drugs Larry Wall was doing when he created the Perl language, but I hope he is in recovery now. :S My brain neurons are starting to turn into hashes. (pun intended)

Some do say that Perl stands for Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister... :)
