OS: Win 8.1

In Chrome, v39, when editing the agenda I'm able to add a new role, but I can't then re-order the agenda using the instructions:
"Change the sequence of the agenda items above by using your mouse... etc"

Nothing happens when I click my mouse, even if I wait a few seconds as was suggested by someone here a few weeks ago.

I had this same problem with the previous version of FTH in Chrome as well.

At that time, I would open the website up in IE 11 where the agenda editing would work fine.

Using FTH v2 today for the first time in IE and the website won't open at all. I just get the 'spinning circles' indicating that the site is loading... but absolutely nothing shows up.

I have completely re-set IE to all the default values according to Microsoft instructions.

So, in summary, I'm unable to re-order the agenda using either of my browsers. Should I move onto Opera? Firefox?

PS: Just installed Opera. I can get on to the site, can add a new role to the agenda, but like the Chrome issue above I am unable to re-order the agenda roles.

Did you click the reload link at the bottom? I want to make sure you are not running an outdated version of the javascript.

Unclear on what you mean by the "re-load link at the bottom".

IE 11 => Site doesn't load at all, not even the front page...

Chrome, Opera => Site loads. I can add a role to the agenda, edit the description and time of a role in the agenda... But I cannot re-order the agenda at all.

If by 're-load' link you are referring to the 'Save' button -- the one next to the 'Close' button -- at the bottom of this editing window, I click it.

It does save the newly added role at the bottom. It has no effect on re-ordering the agenda items, i.e. I can't re-order items or move the newly added role up into the correct position in the agenda. The mouse pointer does not turn into a four-headed mouse like it used to do in IE under the previous version of FTH. Nothing happens when I click... can't move items around.

Scroll all the way to the very bottom of any webpage on your website. Look for a blue link there called:

(Click here to reload website from server.)

Click that.

Yes, I see the link you mean now.

However, when you edit the agenda, you do it in a overlay. The webpage behind is greyed out and inactive...you can't choose the link.

To get to the link you have to close the agenda editing overlay. And the problem that I'm talking about is IN that agenda editing overlay. Close it and you are no closer to solving the problem.

I experimented with closing that agenda editing overlay, clicking on the "Reload from web server" link, re-opening the edit agenda overlay... no difference... still can re-order items in Chrome.

Didn't test in IE since the website doesn't load at all in that browser.

Didn't test in Opera...

Are you saving the new role before you try to move it? Is the save working as expected? I'm using Chrome and I can move agenda items around without any problems.

Yes, I can save the new role.

By default, new roles are created at the bottom of the agenda. After saving though, I cannot move the new role into place. Even if I save, close the overlay and re-open it, the newly created role is still at the bottom of the agenda and I still cannot move it. The mouse pointer never changes to the four-headed arrow that it used in Internet Explorer.

This behaviour is the same in both Chrome and Opera. And -- as I said above -- the website doesn't load at all in Internet Explorer although that is probably a separate issue.

Ideas?

PS: I've just tested Chrome again with no extensions enabled. Makes no difference.

PPS: Just tested in Firefox Portable and it works there.

So, in summary, the site doesn't work at all in IE 11 in Win 8.1. The agenda editing is crippled in the latest versions of Chrome and Opera in Win 8.1.

I guess I'll have to keep Firefox on hand for just this particular problem.

Michael,

I find this very strange. I develop system updates on Internet Explorer, so I absolutely know it works in Internet Explorer.

I am able to access your website without any issues.

Have you tried accessing your website from a different computer to check if you maybe have a local issue on your normal computer?

I think two separate issues are going on but maybe not. Three out of the four most common browsers are having issues with the website on my machine.

Not sure what information I can add... are you using IE 11.0.96 on Win 8.1?

Although I have other PCs they are older OSs with older versions of IE so wouldn't provide useful information. As I mentioned above in an earlier post, my previous versions of IE had no problem. I have IE set to update automatically, so something changed along the way.

As for my separate Chrome/Opera issue not working correctly with agenda editing... again not sure what info I can add. I turned off all my Chrome extensions... no go. Opera doesn't work correctly on it right out of the box. Only Firefox Portable did the trick... some script function is interpreted differently by Firefox than the other browsers is my guess.

As a final test, I turned off my avast! anti-virus software -- it has a website safety component -- in case it was somehow stopping certain scripts from running. Again, no effect on anything...

Can you use Drag & Drop in other applications? It seems some people have had Drag & Drop issues with Win8.1.

Both cookies and Javascript are turned on for my Chrome Browser.

I normally leave them on and did check to confirm that today. Normally I manage them separately via a script blocking extension on a per site basis.

I went so far as to completely remove that extension and it made no difference to the ability to re-order items on the agenda. I took it to the next step and completely removed ALL my Chrome extensions and it still made no difference.

Hopefully, you can glean something from that 'whatsmybrowser' link I sent you.

Pam:

No problems with drag and drop in my Win 8.1.

And just to eliminate another possibility, I've tested the site on my laptop using both the built in Touchpad and my usual external mouse/USB receiver combination.

Makes no difference...

Some relevant information from Googling that may help:

We would really like to get this issue resolved, but nothing seems to be making a difference. :( :S

I am the system developer, so if there is a system related issue I would be the one diagnosing it and fixing it.

Unfortunately, I am just out of things to try. I would like to keep this thread open, and hopefully we will come up with an answer soon enough.

Keep in mind that I will be updating our user interface library that we use in the near future. The developer of the library created it before win 8.1 was released, so it is possible that once we download the library update and install it, it could resolve your issue.

Update:

Today (9 Dec) I notice that when I edit the agenda, the role being edited gets highlighted by a red border. And my arrow cursor turns into a four-headed cursor -- something it didn't do before.

Eureka! I thought. I can re-arrange roles on the agenda now.

Unfortunately, my glee was premature. I still can't drag items into a new position. The four-headed arrow doesn't 'grab' the role and move it.

So a small bit of progress made, but still not there.

A few new problems with the agenda editing have surfaced but I will start a new thread for that.

Make sure that you click on the times at the left for dragging and dropping.

It kind of matters where you click to drag. If you click where the drop down is, your browser gets confused about what you are trying to do.

Yeesh... now I'm NOT getting the four-headed arrow anymore so can't re-arrange anything.

Did you guys work on the agenda today? Because it's not behaving as it did this morning.

Not that it matters because this morning even WITH the four-headed arrow I couldn't re-arrange anything and I tried everything, including the click and dragging from the time bit. All it did was highlight text which is the default behaviour in a browser.

I am frequently making changes to address issues as they come up.

In any case, believe it or not, your recent posts helped me figure out what I believe is the real root cause of the drag and drop issues. There was an issue with the 3rd party drag-and-drop plug-in that showed up in some load sequences and not in others, which made it hard to diagnose before. I believe I have now addressed that with a patch I made to the plug-in. Thank you *very much* for your posts, your persistence, and your patience.

Can you please reload your browser (to force new server code to run), then click the reload link at the bottom of the page (to force updated JavaScript to run), and then give this another try. Try to click/drag on the times at the left of the dialog--that is what is most reliable.

I would appreciate it if you could let us know one way or the other whether my patch to the plugin fixes the issue for you.

Hi Steve.

Okay, the four-headed arrow is back, but still no drag and drop capability.

I cleared the cache, closed / re-opened the browser, clicked the 're-load from server' link, tried click'n'drag all over the agenda, including the times to the left... nothing.

Tried a minor change to a menu item, saved it, tried click'n'drag again... nothing. It just highlights text which is the default Windows behaviour for a browser, although the edited menu item itself IS highlighted with a red border.

Wish I had better news...

Michael,

I hope you have not given up on us just yet... ;)

I discovered the following regarding the jQuery User Interface library that we use:

jqueryui.com/changelog/1.11.0/

Added: Windows 8 touch support. (#9709, #9710, 28310ff)

In other words, they added Windows 8 touch support in version 1.11.0 . We are currently using version 1.9.2 of the library.

I am looking to install the update, but we need to do some testing first to make sure the update does not break anything.

Also, I discovered that the jQuery library actually has drag and drop support built into it and we have been using another code library for that that is not very well supported by the developer. Therefore, I am going to install the jQuery UI library update, and switch to using its drag and drop functionality.

I will put another post on this thread when I think we have everything working correctly so that you can try it out.
