While logged in as both myself (member) and as administrator, I clicked the little "lock" icons in "Private Member Directory" to
make the profiles of two new members I had just added "public", then hit save. Hmm ... they are still private.
Went clean out, killed browser. started over, they were still "private", tried again, same problem ... no unlock.

This was at 6585 ... I have not tried it elsewhere.

Yes, I clicked SAVE after (changing 2 people's locks) No Luck and SAVE after changing one at a time with a SAVE in between.
I guess it just does not love me. (Oh yes, I had a "little pointing fist" when I clicked on the locks, not an arrow cursor.

Is this still an issue for you? If so, what browser are you using? Would you be willing to try the setting change and save with your browsers development tools running to see if there is a javascript error?

Yes, it is still an issue (on 6585 AND on 1087512. I would be happy to run with developer tools ON to help. I run Google Chrome,
version: Version 40.0.2214.94 m according to About Chrome. I will also try IE and another Chrome on an XP.

Ok, for Chrome, use the menu: More Tools > Developer Tools ... then click on the Console tab that shows in the bottom pane.

Once you do that, navigate to your website or reload the website (if already there). You need a fresh start on your website with the developer tools enabled.

Then basically run through the same steps you did before. What you are looking for is anything that says Error in the developer tools or anything that is highlighted in red.

In IE, you enable the developer tools by pressing the F12 key on your computer.

If you find something, then if you could just screen capture it and post here that would be great!

Guess what ... IE and Chrome both fail to update the lock status when editing private member directory, and there was no indication of any kind of error I could see in the developer tools windows in either case. I did observe one difference though between chrome and IE.
Chrome:

(1) Log in as myself, Home refreshes showing me as logged in
(2) Log in as Sysadmin, Home refreshes, shows Sysadmin logged in, DOES NOT SHOW ME AS LOGGED IN, MEMBERS stuff not underlined.
(3) Re-log in as self, Home refreshes, both users logged in status shown.

IE
(1) Log in as self, refresh, logged in status
(2) Log in as Sysadmin, refresh, BOTH logged in.

How else can I help? When I clicked the lock, nothing moved, scrolled etc. in the developer windows. Only changed when I "Saved".

Bill, the little lock icons in the Private Member Directory aren't active - they are just displayed to show whether the member's profile is public or not. To actually change the status from private to public the member has to go to Edit Your Profile. The admin can access that through Membership Management.

Some documentation that might be of help:

Pam,
With all due respect, you seem to be unaware of a feature that has been in the program since it's first release, namely the ability of
the sysadmin to click on the lock icons in "Private Member Directory" to change the profile from locked to unlocked, just as the file manager allows clicking on its lock icons to move a file from private to public or vice-versa.
Consider first that Steve the Techie has been helping me try to "fix" the problem and secondly if you roll over one of the locks and read the roll-over text it says something like "click here to change the profile from private to public"..
Yes, I am well aware of the other methods of achieving this goal as per your citations, but the ability to "click the lock" has been part of the system since very early on.

My apologies Bill, I was not aware that the feature even existed. I was testing logged in as admin only, not as admin and member. Logged in as admin only, the icon is inactive on my screen (and I don't see the bubble help either). Logged in as admin & member I see the "click here to make this profile Private", but the lock icon doesn't actually change from one status to the other when clicked. Does your icon change? I have a feeling the function has been removed since the access is now via Membership Management, but the message has inadvertently been left behind. I could be wrong. Steve will be able to confirm.

Correction -logged in as admin only there is no access to the Private Membership Directory of course. I guess I just wasn't seeing the bubble help earlier when logged in as member and admin. Not sure why that is, as it is now blatantly obvious.

Pam,
I don't know enough about the software structure to understand why "admin" does not automatically get treated as "member" at the same time, and I have found that to be an annoyance, especially when editing the Private Member List. When we get a new member,
the first thing I do after paying for them at TI WHQ is to copy their full member data (Member number, address, phone(s) and email(s)) into the officer's notes section of the Private Member Directory, and that requires the double login. Oh well. The feature MAY have been deleted, but if so Steve did not know it when he started chasing this "odd" behavior. THe other Tech was able to "fix" a couple of people
for me, but it was not clear whether he used the "click the lock" or the "new menus" method.

Bill,

yes I did.

I clicked on membership management, then on the arrow at the far right of the member's information line.

On the next screen, clicked on Yes, and then Clicked Save, Close.

See my screenshot attached.

Lock click functionality in Private Member Directory is fixed.

(Actually restored... Now I know what that stray function does that I had deleted. ;) )

Steve,
Much thanks and good karma! I thought something might have gone away as part of another edit!

Roger,
Thanks for telling me what you did. I was aware of that method, but was trying to use the old feature of clicking on the
lock icon within Private Member Directory to do the same job, and Steve has now restored that trick! Thanks to both of you.
