Ok, I think I have this sorted out now. The main issue is that I need to limit the line lengths in the underlying HTML for emails. The response links make the email lines very long. If they are too long, the email software clips them or mangles them. I can insert newline characters in the HTML to force your email software to take "smaller bites" (smaller lines). (I have now inserted a lot of newline characters.) The other thing is that I have to be careful to limit the length of the mailto links. My research indicates that the body of the generated email should ideally be less than 256 characters. If it is longer than that in the mailto link, again, mangling is possible.
