Do not hit the return key at the end of the line.
the return key adds the extra line.

This is the behavior of the editor widget that we use which I have little control over other than configuration settings.

You can try to use Shift-Enter for end of paragraphs, which will use <br> instead of <p> for paragraphs.

However, it is typical practice for web pages to have an extra line separating paragraphs.

I also made a small configuration change to the editor that may help.

I added the following to its configuration:
fillEmptyBlocks: false
