TOPIC:

A synonym is a word or phrase that means essentially the same as another word or phrase. I am borrowing this concept to implement a new feature for agenda roles that show up in role reports, "Role / Agenda Item Synonyms". This is a new setting in the Global Agenda Settings tab of the Admin Console, Settings / Agenda Template Module.

The intended purpose for this setting is to allow clubs that have many old agendas where the names of roles or agenda items have changed over time to define synonyms for the roles. Essentially, you can now tell the system that old role / agenda items should now be referred to in Role Reports as the new ones. Note that this does not actually replace the old roles in the old agendas. It simply does a replacement in the Role Reports so that your club's current role naming convention is used throughout the role reports.

I have someone in the past that created roles with " and ' ... I cant understand how to escape them
I have this 3:
"President - Closing Remarks"
"Table Topics"
President's Opening Remarks

Is there any way to use the function with this?

also I have 3 evaluators and i needed to use this trick:
Evaluator=Evaluator 1=Evaluator 2=Evaluator 3=Evaluator 4

because it wasn't recognizing evaluator 3, maybe is looking for the next "=" or it cuts at the space?

President's Opening Remarks is now working ... i just needed to add =President at the end, I think the parsing is cutting the last name at the space

but I still dont know how to aggregate the ones that have the " in the name

I anticipated that there may be some need to address special characters.

for now its not working when the last name has a space in the name, I solved adding an extra dummy parameter
the second is when I have a name like "President Opening Remarks" where the " are included in the name
All the rest worked like a charm

I tweaked the code a bit.

I removed the Evaluator 4 you entered... not needed now.
I believe the quotes are being handled correctly now.

One comment: These synonyms are currently applied to both the Member Role Report and the Role Tally Report.

If I did any other reports involving roles in the future, they would be applied to those also.

My only question is if there is any reason that this would need to be disabled from the Role Reports pop-up without changing the synonyms. e.g., would anyone ever want to print a role report without using the synonyms once they have defined them?

(In other words do I need to put a checkbox in the role reports to allow quickly disabling the use of the role synonyms... I do not think I need to do that, but maybe someone has an example use case that would provide good justification for adding the disable checkbox. )
