Hi there, I would like to know if it is possible to retrieve the user's name using html or js.

For example I would like to edit the agenda's description to use the currently logged in member's first name (and maybe last name too)

if the user's name is "John Doe"

Then I could make the agenda description with his name.

for example:

"Hey John Doe, feel free to volunteer for any of the following available roles in the agenda"

If this thing were to exist then if another user "Jane Dough" logs in and travels to the agenda, the above would say "Jane Dough" instead of "John Doe"

We don't support scripts or programming on FTH. If you break anything we will clear the page and if necessary remove the club website.

This functionality is already in FTH in the form of {{firstname}} {{lastname}} variables that are available in email tools. (membership management and agendas) They are not available on custom web pages or the agenda header. (perhaps for good reason.)

This would be a nice personal touch for site members if it's feasible to utilize these personal variables in some other areas of the site such as the agenda header. The Web Page Tools are not available in the agenda header so perhaps it's a tall order on the programming side.

Many of the variables are context sensitive, meaning that they may not be available in some situations because the information would not be available or would be confusing or nonsensical.

Name variables are typically intended to be available for situations where something is being prepared for a "batch" of members (or other list). (e.g. an email, name tags, etc.) A login name does not exactly fit this, and it would have to handle the case of the admin being the one logged in. (And some clubs do share the admin password, so the admin name may not actually be the person who logged in as the admin.) I am not saying it could not be done, but it just does not fit well with current usage or intent.
