I got an email sent to my membership returned to me along with this message:

Technical details of temporary failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain toastmastersclubs.org by mail.toastmastersclubs.org. [50.19.253.65].

The error that the other server returned was:
550 5.7.1 Mail from 209.85.215.51 refused because IP is on SpamCop - see spamcop.net/bl.shtml

This is a new issue. I was using my home computer as usual. I use gmail.

Any ideas how to get my email through?

You need to contact gmail and get them to clean up their spammers.

Hmm. That's not a real option.

What I'm seeing is that toastmastersclubs.org is using a service - SpamCop, that only today decided the email I've been using for years is now spam.

Granted, gmail has its own issues but if toastmastersclubs is going to start blocking my email, I need to ask toastmastersclubs about it, yes? And then toastmastersclubs should either talk to SpamCop or give me a way to unblock my email address manually myself.

How do I fix this? I don't mind manually doing what I need to but please don't tell me it's Google's fault and I need to take it up with them.

We have been using the spamcop service since 2004 to prevent spam from reaching our members. It seems that all of the free mail services are allowing misuse of their services and there is not much we can do about it from our end. Free mail services like Yahoo and Gmail have got to start filtering their outbound mail to prevent misuse.

If enough gmail clients complain then they will do something about it, so yes you need to express your dissatisfaction to Gmail your mail supplier that they have allowed spammers onto their service.

Right after my last reply, the email was finally delivered. If SpamCop would provide a link to whitelist my address, I'd be happy to use it.

Google and Yahoo are obviously working to reduce spam. This isn't like where if you report suspicious activity to your local police they may take it into account in their next allocation of resources.

If enough users of SpamCop complain that they're blocking legitimate users, maybe they'll provide a way to verify yourself. That would be better than having no recourse whatsoever.

Thanks. This is resolved from my end. If it happens again, I'll spend more time trying to find contact info for SpamCop.
