Agenda Roles and People's Name

Hello,

Our Club is 2960. The members who configured our FTH3 website are no longer with the club so we don't necessarily have the history behind past decisions. We're taking this opportunity to take more advantage of the FTH website's features and benefits, following FTH4 standards and best practices while eliminating bad habits. So this question may be basic. I did look at the documentation, but it wasn't clearly answered there.

Specifically: for any agenda item (row) where the setting is "Members cannot sign up," I can populate the row with a Role via a drop-down. A person's name doesn't appear anywhere on the agenda for example, in the column where a signed-up member's name would normally show, it just shows dashes instead. I would expect the associated name to appear there, the same as when someone signs up themselves.

I can also fill in a "Role Name," but then that Role Name replaces "Role" in the left-hand column too. I would have expected the Role Name to instead appear in the same column where signed-up members' names normally show. But, as I read the documentation, this looks like as alternate role name or custom role name and not a person's name.

So my question: what is the proper/intended use of these two fields? And, how do we get names populated for all agenda items?  Is a person's name meant to go in "Role Name"? Or is "Role Name" just for custom role labels  in which case, should a person's name be added to the agenda automatically some other way, or does it just stay as "Role" and dashes where other names appear?

1) If you want a body in a role you need to  tick "Members can sign up for" You can create your template with it off and when the VPE is ready to fill the role they just tick it on and put a person in the role.

2) in a template you can  have "Members can sign up for" ticket and use the pull down to place a member and that person will, be in the role in all new agendas that use that template going forward.

3) the Role is the position the Role name iks what they are doing Role - Toastmaster, Role name - Toastmasters introduces the timer, etc
Thank you,
