Pick a photo with the user's head fairly centered in the frame or the cropping algorithm may leave the head at one side of the final frame.

I suggest you use your photo editing software to cut out a headshot from any photo you use and paste it into a square frame. Your target can be 200 x 200 or 400x400 etc. but not too big (800x800 or more), Save the headshot where it is easy to find (desktop?). When you upload it to the member's profile, it will be shrunk to 100x100 square so the head should stay put in the center and the resolution may be a bit better than if you started out with a 100x100 frame.

There is a nice freeware piece of software I've run across that does this very nicely:

www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

They have a very nice crop & resizing board that allow you to define either the ratio or specific size.

Wonderfully easy way to get exactly the right "shot" you want for a profile pic.

Look for an upcoming Youtube video from me on this with screen video captures!
