All freetoasthost websites are accessible via the club number, by default. This is the basic fallback that ensures all websites can be accessed always. That type of access is available regardless of what other types of access clubs/districts set up.

However, many clubs prefer to use text in addition to their club number to access their website. That is where aliases and custom domains come in.

Aliases are free and FreeToastHost supports them directly. (no third party registrar needed)

If you want to switch to an alias, please look at the doc I mentioned to you.

eastside is already in use as a website alias by another club (maybe the one you mentioned), so you would have to use something else as an alias.

I recommend estm (short for East Side Toastmasters)... It is short and your members would only have to type in
Code:
http://estm.toastmastersclubs.org
to access your website. (simple)

Just to make sure I understand:

I can remove the domain name from the website, leave the alias blank, and people would only be able to access the website using the club number: http// 6500.toastmastersclubs.org.

or

I can remove the domain name and put in an alias (eg. estm.toastmastersclubs.org) and people would be able to access using that URL or the one with the number.

In either case I would have to inform my members and TI of the change in URL. Correct?

Can I do a test: remove the domain name just to see if the club emails will then work? Can I add the same domain name back as long as it hasn't expired?

I did the test of removing the domain name and it works using the club number if I don't put in an alias. Then I tried putting in the alias: estm.toastmastersclubs.org - then when I try to log in to it I get a Freetoasthost website. Did I do something wrong??

Apparently, you did not save it since it was not shown in the admin console. I entered and saved it for you.
Code:
http://estm.toastmastersclubs.org
works now.

Be advised that Google may still show your old website address for a while until it indexes your website again. You can request it index your website sooner if you register your website with Google webmaster tools and then request that the googlebot reindex your website.

You will also want to update your website address on TM Club Central so that it is correctly indicated in your club's Find a Club entry.
