Hi Steve -- Thank you for that confirmation. I really like the feature that allows only existing members to send to all members (members@toastofpetaluma.org).

My personal suggestion would be to allow me to place an email in a 'grey list' (using a middle-of-the-road color between black and white lists) that would allow that person to submit a Contact Us form to our club, but not to the email addresses that are limited to existing members.

My fix will be to ask this person to email our VP Membership email address, instead of submitting the Contact Us form.

I've recently been raving about the FTH team and how much I appreciate all that you and the team do for all of us! Again, Thank you!

Renee

Keep in mind that this an example of the trade-off that you are implicitly agreeing to by using the Crowd-Sourced Blacklist feature. Yes, you are very likely getting more protection from getting spammed, but by essentially allowing other clubs to determine whose emails should be blocked & not sent to your club, you are kind of crossing your fingers that some other club using FreeToastHost has not blocked an email address that you actually want to receive email from.

I am not knocking the feature (I created it), but it is important to understand the trade-off.

If you were to just shut off the Crowd-Sourced Blacklist feature, you would not need to white list this person's email address, but your club could get more spam, meaning that you would likely have to actually manage your club black list more actively.

Well, there are always going to be "edge cases"... I think this is probably one of those situations. The existing functionality works fine for ~90% of clubs and scenarios... I am not inclined to want to add functionality to handle each and every edge case. Going down that rabbit hole only leads to feature glut and makes the system unnecessarily complicated to use.

Bottom Line: If the crowd-sourced blacklist functionality is leading to situations like this that you do not like, then disable that feature and manage your club black list through the other existing means. (like the "Is this SPAM?" links or just editing the list.)

Thank you again, Steve. I am happy with the Crowd-Sourced Blacklist feature and thrilled with the features you've added over time. I'm sticking with the the Crowd-Sourced Blacklist and dealing with the "edge cases" whenever they occur.

Thank you again for the powerful and user friendly FTH website!
