This is one of the GDPR / privacy updates.

Now when someone first visits a FreeToastHost website (from now on), they will see a pop-up requesting that they agree with our Privacy and Cookie Policy ... This policy is still in draft form... I realize that, but I need to get this code out and in use so I can get feedback soon on it.

If someone does not agree with the policy, they are locked out of using the log in buttons and see the following:

If someone clicks the wrong button in the pop-up or later changes their mind, they can re-display the pop-up via link at the bottom of the screen just above the reload link. (I was not sure where to put this... open to suggestions.)

When I click on the link to read the FreeToastHost Privacy and Cookie Policy, I receive an error message saying that I am not authorised to view this resource.

Ok, thanks... we will get that fixed.

Jane Atkinson: I need your assistance... I have a couple of new docs that I cannot figure out how to make readable to the general public. I set them as public, but it is not working.

I clicked the "do not agree" button on Sunday, and when attempting to use the consent form link to change this decision, received just the message "[object Object]" on an otherwise blank page (this is from memory, so may not be 100% identical to what I saw). Now, I do not even see the "Display the cookie consent form" link. This is on Internet Explorer 11.2189.14393.0. The club is 1357973.

When I click on "View Cookie Consent Form" I do not get any window that pops up. I tried this in Chrome, Edge. When I tried in IE I was taken to a page that only says [object Object]

Just tried in FireFox and also got the [object Object], the URL was showing: javascript:$('#cookieNotice').show()

Yeah this isn't working for me either, all my members are locked out as well. The option to agree or disagree with the policy didn't pop up either, even after I made sure chrome was allowing pop ups from my club web site.

If login is the only feature that is hampered by the cookies, I think it makes more sense to put the link up near the login boxes. Would it be possible to not disable the login boxes, but have them direct to the agreement instead?

I have tried clicking on the "View cookie consent form" link at the bottom of the page with no effect. It doesn't open any kind of pop-up or take me to a new page. This is for all my clubs and in three different browsers: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, all on Windows platform. I tried again in Chrome on my MacBook when i got home and had the same result. I am currently unable to log into any of my club websites below as an administrator or member.

Ditto these suggestions. I don't consider myself especially tech challenged, but even i had a hard time locating that link. And it itsn't actually working for me right now. I think these tweaks would help clarify and make it easier for people to know what to do in the long run.

Thanks!

The visit-log is not the default appearance. I am logged in as a member and can not logout.
9527.toastmastersclubs.org/ is in my "allow cookies" Security status in Chrome.
I cannot get logged in as admin to turn on the visit-log option.

It helps to remember to un-hide the form that you want people to view and click the accept button on.

One of several more significant glitches today (not all FTH related). Very rough day for me. :(

Well i appreciate all the hard work you do to make our lives in Toastmasters easier and more efficient. I don't think everyone realizes you all do this on a volunteer basis.

Hope tomorrow is better than today....

Hello DTM
I think the best place is the LOGIN Menu Section where it should be written "You can login only if you accept cookies. And provide hyperlink "Click Here to ACCEPT"

Steve,

What instructions would you recommend that we send to our members to notify them of the cookie policy acceptance action? I have done it and now have full log-in access. I'd like to send a brief note to our members to guide them.

Thanks for all your hard work to support us and the FreeToastHost domain.

Brian,

What I mean is that I want to send a message to our members and instruct them about cookies policy and how and where to find it, and what it means if they do or don't accept it.

Thanks,

Tonia

From the standpoint of what is practical technically, requiring cookies for logins & authentication is the simplest, most straightforward technical approach and this is the reason for the lockout on the logins if the use of cookies is rejected by a user. The website is still usable for visiting web pages (something a non member or non admin would be expected to do), but logins are just disabled.

Cookies have a very unique technical characteristic for storage purposes in that they can be set both by your browser and by the server and they are readily visible to both... this is a very useful characteristic when determining whether someone is logged in or not. (the process of authentication)

There are "non-cookie" approaches that I have looked into for logins/authentication in the past, but all of them lack this shared visibility characteristic, so extra work ends up having to be done to communicate the login status back and forth between the server and the browser. This makes the code more complicated and *slows* down access to web pages. There are also approaches that put the relevant login "key" in the url in the browser address bar, but those approaches are not really that secure in my mind.
