I receive agendas from a club I visited. At the top it says "To unsubscribe, click here" then there's a link that looks like this: https://[club number].toastmastersclubs.org/?unsubscribe=[a long character string]. Out of curiosity I clicked on it and went to a page on their site that said, "Thank you for your request to be removed from our mailing list. We are sorry to see you go. Please contact a club officer or the website administrator if you change your mind." with "Unsubscribed" in the header.

That is a neat trick, but I've never heard of it. There isn't anything in the support docs. Do you know how they accomplished this?

That is baked into FreeToastHost for emails to non-members. (That club did not create it... we did.) That club probably forwarded the agenda email to one of their non-member lists which you are likely on. Any emails to people on non-member lists *always* get an unsubscribe link.... it has been like this for many years. We don't like non-members getting agendas (agendas contain personal info==names), but clubs do it anyway.

It is not an option, it is a required part of how the FTH email works.

As far as docs, it is mentioned in The Terms of Use Agreement under bullet point #2.

Thank you. Wonderful to know. Love learning new (to me) features of the system.

1. Wouldn't it be okay to Email the Agenda to non-members and Omit the actual agenda? This would seem to accomplish the goal of contacting them with a marketing message, having the unsubscribe link show up and not violating member privacy.

2. On a similar note, when I sent the Contact Us request to the club, I did not check the box to be included in future emails, so they added my name to their guest list without my permission. When a guest is added, is an opt-in email sent (I never got one so I'm guessing no)?

3. After the unsubscribe link is clicked, a page pops up saying the effort was successful. On their website, it looked like it was a custom message. Is the message canned or can it be customized?

Agenda emails are purposely intended to be for members only. You can use "Sent Basic Email" from the website (Membership Management) and you can send to the non-member lists from your own personal email tool/agent/client/webmail.

2. On a similar note, when I sent the Contact Us request to the club, I did not check the box to be included in future emails, so they added my name to their guest list without my permission. When a guest is added, is an opt-in email sent (I never got one so I'm guessing no)?

If they added you to their guest list, you should have gotten an opt-in email... I am not sure how they did this. (Although I have a hunch that I will not post here.)

3. After the unsubscribe link is clicked, a page pops up saying the effort was successful. On their website, it looked like it was a custom message. Is the message canned or can it be customized?

Message is canned and cannot be customized. In fact, it is a very old part of the underlying website template.
