Like many, I use a password manager, and this is good for security reasons (and to deal with my sometimes faulty memory). However, FTH doesn't appear to play nicely with PM's in general, or at least my manager of choice, RoboForm. I have finally figured out that for name I have to enter the exact contents of FTH "name with Toastmasters designations" field (which is rather awkward to type and remember). But what is more problematic is that I can't figure out a one step process for getting the login popup. I somehow stumbled upon a way a few months ago, but the recent upgrade broke it. So now I have to 1. Go to our club site 2. Click on Member Login 3. Click on password manager fillin button. What I'd really like to do, and what I do virtually every other place on the web including many/most financial sites, is type a lookup in my password manager search box, hit enter, and I'm logged in.

Am I missing something?
Thanks!

I can't help you on the password manager aspect (maybe someone else can help there).

As to your login name, the box is predictive, i.e. after typing in the first 3 or 4 letters of your name a list with matching names from your club should appear. You just need to select your name to get it into the name box. Alternatively you can enter your email address. Again you will need to select your name to get it into the name box. If you do forget your password it is easy enough to get back into the site and create a new one (just enter your name and leave the password box blank, press "authenticate" and access the site via the email that will be sent to you).

Well, you are sort of in luck, since I also use RoboForm (for a long time), and I am also the system developer.

Frankly, though, making the logins work with RoboForm is not exactly a high priority for me. I have other issues that are more pressing. The main difference in this release is that the login dialogs do not get created until you click the link to use them the first time--in the past, they were created when the website loaded. The system is designed to load and store fewer things when the website is loaded to make it load faster and become available for use sooner. Also, the JavaScript initiates the page refresh now after login, not the server--this is necessary to provide for the member messaging scheme.

In any case, though, for a member login, once you have called up the member login dialog, you can just have RoboForm plug in your primary email address into the field called memberselect and your password into the field called mpass. That should work, and I do not intend to change that. (Although I might change the fieldname "mpass" to "mpassword" or something less abbreviated.)

Ok, I just tried using my member email address in the member login as I indicated above. It works fine with RoboForm. B)

The key to setting the form up to be saved by RoboForm is to carefully skip over the name pop up with your mouse after entering your email address, so that your email address and your password is what is actually submitted by RoboForm.

Then, when you pull up the login form, fill and submit by RoboForm, and you are good to go.

Thanks, all, for the quick replies.

Pam- yes, I understand the lookup/popup bit. There's a nice bit of programming to do all of that.

People are confused, however, as I mentioned, that the full name description is the required username. Nowhere else on the web in my experience do I have a main identifier in this form. It's either my email- period, or less frequently, some kind of userid/username -that doesn't get mapped to something else. Yep, the slick lookup brings that value up, but it's still confusing, especially to new folks. The topic came up in our last club officer's meeting.

It's good to know that the email value works.

Steve- I understand priorities. I worked in IT for 36 years, including some development, help desk, system management. Just sayin' I'd like that- someday. Thanks for all you do.

While I respect your opinion and perspective from IT, we have a good bit of experience with this system, and what tends to work for Toastmasters clubs and districts in practice. Usernames get forgotten, and then we have to deal with both a username reset and a password reset, which just adds complexity that we do not need. If you want to enter your email address, you can do that--the system is designed to take that as an alternate. It shows your name in the pop-up as a confirmation that we found you in the system.
