For the past 2 weeks our website load has been very slow.
Each page transition is also slow.

At first I thot it was too much content on the home page, so I have archived most of that now yet it is still very slow.

I see this as web admin, the VPE sees it, and so do our members.

Ideas?

It comes right up for me today.

We are seeing some slowdowns at the beginning of the week. It appears that many clubs are accessing the system at the beginning of the week. (Monday and Tuesday) The catch is that everyone is trying to access their websites hosted on the single FTH server at the same time. As there are over 10,000 clubs in the system, you might imagine that it could slow things down a bit if a large percentage of those clubs are accessing the system at the same time. In some regards, we may have become a bit of a victim of our own success.

However, we realize that the system needs to adapt to how the clubs using it work, not the other way around.

While we use open source tools and we volunteer our time for user support, documentation maintenance, server administration, and system development to keep the system free, servers (and hardware) are not free. We have all benefitted greatly from the generosity of the founder of FreeToastHost who has footed the bill for the server to date. Keep in mind that this is an independent effort, not funded or supported by Toastmasters Int'l headquarters.

We have been trying to exhaust all software approaches to improve system performance before delving into what it would take to increase server capacity, since there is probably money involved in the latter.

At this time, I can only request your patience. We are aware of the issue, we are trying to find creative software approaches to deal with it, and we will probably end up doing something with the server hardware. However, if we had an easy fix, it would have been implemented already.

Yes... with most clubs meeting on Wed & Thu at noon... it's not surprising there is heavy traffic at the beginning of the week.
