Hello,
I am in need to add a slide show on our home page.

I thought it wasn't possible but after searching some of your forum topics it seems other folks have done it.

Are there any step by step instructions on how to do that?

It depends on where you want to store your photos. Most available approaches that work require that you store your photos outside of your website.

While the editor will support the inclusion of external widgets and code such as slide shows, it is not something that we directly support, so we do not have any directions to do it. (Also, we will not normally write a lot of directions for how to use other people's stuff.)

So, yes, you absolutely can do it, and you may need to ask us and other users on here to coach you through it depending on your level of computer savviness and which approach you use.

My recommendations:

1. If you use Flickr for photo storage, then use the Flickrit tool for making the slide show. (this is what I use on my club's website)

2. If you use Instagram for photo storage, then use SnapWidget .

You will need to read up on the widget that you choose to use. Generally, you will get some code for the widget that you will insert in your content using the editor's Source View.

This is an advanced technique (because of using Source View), so you will need to have some patience and persistence to get it working right.

I tried creating a Flickr account and using Flickrit for making the slide show and I run into an error message from Flickrit.
Unfortunately for me, my error message only said a fatal error had occurred. The error message happened at Flickrit side as I was able to see the same error message on our website. So the embedding part of it worked, it just couldn't create the slide show.

There is very little opportunity to investigate why the error occurred. So I will now try your second recommendation. I will let you know if I have better luck with it.

I ran into a number of issues using Fiickrit before I finally got it working for me. Its error messages are not very helpful--I agree. However, I finally did get it working after a lot of attempts. The key is what settings you enter for it to use. The errors are an indication that the settings you are using are bad.

As I said, though, some patience and persistence is required.

If you want me to coach you on the Flickrit widget, please give me a sense of what you entered so I can tell you what to do differently.

I am still unsure how, but I got it to work.
