The company that maintains our domain (oceanviewtoastmasters.com) moved all of their domains to Go Daddy last week. I gave them the following instructions for properly directing the domain on Go Daddy.
support.toastmastersclubs.org/component/...dns-settings-godaddy
Are these instructions in the following still accurate? They tried to make the changes today using the IP address in the instructions (50.19.253.65) however at the moment when I go to oceanviewtoastmasters.com I just see the freetoasthost 2.0 welcome page (www.toastmastersclubs.org/welcome/).
When I try to paste our custom website domain in the admin area of our page it appears in red and will not yet save. I realize it might take awhile for the domain changes to take full effect but wanted to make sure the instructions accurate as they are quite different from what had to be done in the past on another domain service platform.
Thanks for any feedback or additional guidance to help us get our page back in working order.

Our server code must be able to detect the proper settings... may take a bit.

In any case, your DNS settings are still not set up properly... There were no MX or mail settings found.

See here www.viewdns.info/dnsrecord/?domain=oceanviewtoastmasters.com

Hi Steve,
The Go Daddy instructions do show mail and MX setup instructions and we do want our club distribution lists to use our custom domain. If we ignore the mail and MX setup instructions and remove these settings as you suggest will our club e-mails still be based on our custom domain?

I think you misunderstand. I am not suggesting to remove any settings. I am saying you are missing settings that need to be added to use the mail features with your custom domain.

It looks like whoever set this up for you ignored some of the directions, specifically the mail stuff.

oceanviewtoastmasters.com. 3599 IN MX 0 smtp.secureserver.net.

Hi Brian and Steve, the web domain person (Dennis) is making additional changes based on the feedback you provided.

Dennis notes that the feedback conflicts with the freetoasthost go daddy instructions so perhaps these instructions need to be updated.

Specifically he notes that the www CName or AName are not mentioned in the instructions. The instructions are, "Any other records should be deleted".
He also points out that “mail.oceanviewtoastmasters.com IN A 50.19.253.65" can, of course be accommodated in the A Record. But, this is in direct conflict with the instructions provided, which clearly state, "You need to have these two entries AND NO OTHERS: "@" and "mail". Both should point to 50.19.253.65", which they do. And, "Any other records should be deleted".

Hopefully we will get the settings correct soon.
Thx,
Drek

The directions are accurate... you are just not reading them carefully. :pinch:

Also, I specifically said the following in thread above:

mail.oceanviewtoastmasters.com IN A 50.19.253.65

needs to be added also.

There are 2 DNS records for mail, an A record and an MX record. You are missing the A record for mail that tells the registrar to route mail to the FTH2 server IP address. All you have done is tell the registrar what the name of the mail server is, not were it is located.

Thus, no mail.

The other thing is Brian is suggesting that you add a www.oceanviewtoastmasters.com IN A 50.19.253.65 to support the use of www. (Although I don't think it matters for GoDaddy... I think they support it either way.)

Lastly, DNS settings are technical... no way to avoid that.

No, *your statement* is contradictory since mail.oceanviewtoastmasters.com is the mail record. :pinch:

We are good to go. E-mails are now working. Thanks for the help..
Since I was not configuring go daddy, much of what the instructions said and the additional feedback was beyond me but, it seems that not everything that needs to be done is included in the instructions. I wish I had made the changes myself so I could better assess the instructions and take a stab at improving them if warranted.

Drek
