You could do that. Just set them to not be sign up roles, and not print (if you do not want them on printed agenda).
If you added roles for tracking purposes, then you could use the role history reports for a tally across meetings. Actually, I like your approach... I had not thought of using non-signup roles for this purpose before... Very nice!  (Of course, my club does not do any voting for roles at all, so I probably would not have thought of it.) Regards,
