7881.toastmastersclubs.org Webmaster--Dan Trent Chrome Ver. 70.0.3538.77

I purchased a custom domain name (rosetoasters.com) and set it up with the domain registrar to point to 50.19.253.65.
Using Chrome, when I go to www.rosetoasters.com, it takes me to the free host toast home page, so I feel confident I got that part right.
Next, I logged into 7881.toastmastersclubs.org (our club website for Rose Toasters), logged in as Administrator, opened the Admin Console, scrolled down to the box that contains the Alias rtoasters, deleted it, then in the Custom Domain Box I typed rosetoasters.com. Next I hit SAVE button and
I get the following error message:
rtoasters.toastmastersclubs.org says
***DATA TRANSFER ERROR***
JavaScript Function=StdAdminSaveBtnClick
Status=error
Error=
Please notify us about this at support.toastmastersclubs.org
Would you like to reload this website from the server?

The custom domain information does not save. (I also tried all the above with Internet Explorer with the same results.
How do I get past this error for www.rosetoasters.com to get connected to our 7881.toastmastersclubs.org website?

1) click the reload link at the bottom of your club site, and try again.
2) Your domain is not set up correctly at the registrar.

remove MX
rosetoasters.com. 3599 IN MX 10 mx01.1and1.com.

I had previously clicked on the reload link to no avail.
I went back to 1&1 and removed the DNS record mx01.1and1.com.
Are you saying I need to remove the MX for rosetoasters.com as well?

Sorry. I was confused by what I saw at 1&1 DNS page and your instructions.
I removed the one MX record you posted.
Do I have to wait for this to work its way through?
I again tried to get the admin console on our website to accept the removal of rtoasters as an alias and the add of rosetoaster.com, but the SAVE does not happen.

Your domain is not set up properly and the cert cannot be generated as a result. You will not be able to save this domain in the database until you get the domain config/DNS records resolved. We will not let you save domains in our database that do not work.

Additionally, because you have apparently been trying to save this over and over, you have caused our server to exceed our cert issuance rate limits (limits for Lets Encrypt), and you have to wait a day to try this again.

Brian, I recommend referring to the ssl_certs_log for this club, given the problems with getting the the SSL cert generated.

I sent the information in your last post to my domain registrar. The changes you requested were just now changed. I was advised to wait 24 to 48 hours for the changes to propogate. I do not want to attempt to SAVE the change in our Admin Console until it is safe to do. How long do you recommend I wait before trying it one (and only one) more time.

domain zone records look good now.

Wait 24 hours from the time they completed the changes.

If you are still unable to save the domain name after waiting 24 hrs, please do *not* just keep saving over and over... let us know, so that we can investigate further. Just doing the same thing over and over frequently creates other problems.

Brian: Cert log indicates that certs for other domains have been successfully generated. Thus, no inherent issue w/ cert gen process.

I waited the 24 hours as you instructed before attempting to change from our alias to the Custom Domain Name. I did the SAVE one time only. It was unsuccessful.

I did as you asked, but with one, and only one, try to SAVE the custom domain in place of the alias, I still get the error I reported days ago.

I did some more digging, and I think I may have something new to try...

[Fri Oct 26 13:19:52 2018 GMT] Could not generate the certificate--request_certificate() failed: Error creating new cert :: authorizations for these names not found or expired: rosetoasters.com, www.rosetoasters.com

The "300 Multiple Choices" phrase that shows up twice in the domain validation lines is interesting. So I looked for it in the Lets Encrypt support pages and ran across the following: community.letsencrypt.org/t/300-multiple-choices/35952

Essentially, it is saying that if you have an AAAA record in your DNS it will cause problems for Let's Encrypt cert generation... This is *new* information that we have not been previously aware of.

It turns out that you do have a AAAA record in your DNS per digwebinterface.com (see last line below)
rosetoasters.com.	3599	IN	A	50.19.253.65
rosetoasters.com.	21599	IN	NS	ns1076.ui-dns.biz.
rosetoasters.com.	21599	IN	NS	ns1067.ui-dns.org.
rosetoasters.com.	21599	IN	NS	ns1040.ui-dns.com.
rosetoasters.com.	21599	IN	NS	ns1091.ui-dns.de.
rosetoasters.com.	21599	IN	SOA	ns1067.ui-dns.org. hostmaster.1und1.com. 2017060103 28800 7200 604800 600
rosetoasters.com.	3599	IN	MX	10 mail.rosetoasters.com.
rosetoasters.com.	3599	IN	AAAA	2607:f1c0:100f:f000::2c3

Therefore, please remove any AAAA records from your DNS ... let us know when you have done that... We will have to wait a bit again. (usually a day or less)

I understand you may be a bit frustrated, but this is why we explicitly state that this is advanced stuff... there is really not a way to make it easier.

I removed the AAAA DNS records you asked me to. I waited 24 hours, and I still get the SAVE error when I try to specify my custom domain name of rosetoasters.com.
At 1&1 I also see two additional DNS records as follows:
Type Host Name Value Service
CNAME _domainconnect _domainconnect.1and1.com Standard Record
CNAME autodiscover adsredir.1and1.info Standard Record

Are these also screwing things up as did the two AAAA records that you had me delete?

I was able to save the domain name in the admin console today (10/28/2018). Everything looks fine to me now. I am able to access the website via the custom domain name. I believe that removing the AAAA record was the key.

It looks like the cert was successfully generated on 10/26, per our admin tools. Perhaps you just did not wait long enough...
letsencrypt.key EXISTS.
rosetoasters.com.key EXISTS.
rosetoasters.com.csr EXISTS.
rosetoasters.com.crt EXISTS.
ssl_rosetoasters.com_tld.conf EXISTS.

Cert Expiration Date/Time: Sat Jan 26 02:01:07 2019 UTC
