I have been unable to login using my Member ID since Friday (May 24). I can still login as "admin" without issues. When I try to login using my Member ID, there is a very long delay, which ends with display of a JavaScript error citing "badgateway". Even though I was unable to login, I still get the email telling me that I tried to login from an unrecognized device - which I always get, since I always clear all cookies upon browser exit. This problem happens with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on iPhone -- all latest versions -- so the problem is not browser specific. Other club members have reported similar problems to me.

Which member ID are you referring to?

Did you try your name?
Did you try your email address?

I have no problem getting the drop down with my name - sorry for the terminology confusion, that's what I meant by "Member ID". I select that then enter my password and click the button to login. At that point, the circling "processing/wait" icon appears... but it hangs and does not log me in. Instead, after a long wait, I get an error dialog with the Javascript "badgateway" error.

I belong to multiple clubs, and this is happening to me on all the club websites. It started this past Friday. I thought maybe you folks were doing server maintenance over the holiday weekend or something, so I waited until today and tried again, but continued to have the problem. And, as I stated before, this happened to me using several different browsers.

I spoke to several people at a club meeting tonight who did NOT have this problem today. I haven't tried since this morning, so I'll try again. Possibly, the problem has cleared on its own. I'll let you know.

Just now, I was able to login as a Member on the 311 club website. It seemed to take a VERY long time between when I clicked the button to login and when I was finally logged in. Possibly, the error dialog I received before was an indicator of timeout? Still, when I login as "admin", I don't have this problem -- and it has only rarely in the past taken so long to login as a Member. Something is going on. Any insights as to what?

I was able to log in as you and did not see any errors or issues.

What browser are you using? and what version?
Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies?

Thank you,

Mozilla Firefox 67.0 (64-bit)

The other browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari) are on other devices not with me at present so I'll have to check those versions tomorrow. I also tried Chrome (on another device), knowing of the login problems reported with Chrome but just in case.

it is more the cookies that cause login problems.

As promised, here are the other browsers with which I've experienced this problem.
Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.19326
Safari 12 (iOS 12.3.1)
Chrome 69.0.3497.100 (use it only rarely, haven't bothered to update it recently)

The problem I'm experiencing started on Friday, May 24. That's the day I first noticed it, at least. Prior to that, with any of the browsers I use (other than Chrome), I did not experience this problem, except occasionally and temporarily, when I presume FTH was undergoing server maintenance.

My behavior w.r.t. clearing caches has not changed. I routinely [ obsessively? :-) ] clear all cookies, history, form data, and all other temp data after browser exit, as well as SSL state. I do this explicitly, manually, even though I also have settings configured for the browser to clear data, as well, upon exit. (I don't trust browser software to clear everything I want cleared.)

If you clear cookies, that will wipe out your login status and the system will forget you are logged in.

This is per design, and will not be changed.

If you intend to continue doing this practice, you should determine if you can set an exception for FreeToastHost websites in your browser settings.

I do not understand how "system will forget you are logged in" is relevant to the problem I'm experiencing.

Each time I attempt to login, I "accept" the cookies (again). When I"m successful at logging in, then when I'm done, I logout, close my browser, then manually clear all cookies et cetera. The next time I attempt to login, I "accept" the cookies (again). And so on. I never STAY logged in perpetually, so there is nothing for the system to "remember" or 'forget".

Again, the problem I've been experiencing is either (1) very long wait time for system to process login request and actually log me in, or (2) after very, very long delay processing login request, system displays error dialog stating javascript and "badgateway" error. (By "login request", I mean that I've entered enough of my email address to get the drop-down box, selected that, entered my password, and clicked the Login button.)

Sue, if you remove your cookies or prevent the system from setting them, you will run into a variety of issues, including login issues and repeatedly having to clear the cookies prompt. You may not see the relevance... However, as I designed and implemented most, if not all, of the way this works, it *is relevant*. The system depends on storing information in cookies for proper operation.

Like Brian, I was able to log in as you without any issues.

If you can provide screen captures of the issue on your screen and give us further information such as your browser and browser version, we might be able to assist you further. However, until you stop clearing your cookies for the FTH websites, I am not sure that we be able to accomplish much.

I provided all browser information in a previous post.

This problem started on May 24. I did not have this problem before that time. I did not change the browsers I was using or my cookie clearing behavior. I conclude the problem is due to changes you made on or shortly before May 24.

Accepting the policies (at the top of the screen) is not the same as allowing cookies (browser setting). If you don't allow cookies on your browser, you will very likely be logged off after an apparent successful login.
See the documentation for allowing cookies: support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/cookie-settings
On some browsers you can allow cookies for certain domain names - use toastmastersclubs.org, or your full club website url

The problem went away this week, after my last post. I've had no issues logging in to my various club websites this week. My browser/cookie/etc settings and behavior did not change throughout this period. Logically, that means the problem had to have been on your end.

Whatever you did that "broke" things right before May 24, please don't ever do that again. :-)

Whatever you did that "fixed" things again earlier this week, thank-you!
