I just used one of my templates to send an agenda reminder note to a member and was told that her first name did not appear, but rather {{firstname}}.  Running my field test template, I get the following, which indicates none of the placeholders are having actual values inserted:Field TestCreated: 28 August 2019Note: at least italics works for the fields.name = {{name}}firstname = {{firstname}}lastname = {{lastname}}namesuffix = {{namesuffix}}datejoined = {{datejoined}}membersince = {{membersince}}officerrole = {{officerrole}}emeritus = {{emeritus}}clubname = {{clubname}}clubnumber = {{clubnumber}}WEBURL = {{WEBURL}}adminname = {{adminname}}adminemail = {{adminemail}}

Is this an email template used in the dated Agenda emailer?   A little more specifics please.

Yup.  I clicked on the envelope button adjacent to an agenda role I was filling, then loaded one of the templates I created many moons ago, and sent it to myself.  None of the field values were plugged in.  I have not tested in the Dues Management section.

Those are not intended for use with templates.  Those are MAILTO: links and I specifically do not support the use of templates with MAILTO: links, since technically MAILTO: links can be for any email address and the club can also put MAILTO: links in html themselves.   If you click a MAILTO: link, then click to use the Website Mailer, you will notice that there isn't a variables drop-down in the pop-up dialog where you compose your email.  That is not an oversight--it is on purpose.

I am very keen to be very careful about what level of enhanced support I do and do not provide for MAILTO: links.  Most users do not really understand the technical aspects of MAILTO:'s and just the fact that I give users a choice of using the Website Emailer or their default system email client is about as far as I am willing to go in terms of extra MAILTO: support.   We do also give you the option of using MAILTO's for agenda response links buttons in agenda emails, but even those were very carefully thought out to limit issues... since you click those in a received email (vs on your website), the support there is also limited.

I believe something has changed, then.  I sent the Field Test template via the Membership Management module and all fields were populated.  I sent another prepared speech information reminder template via the MMM and the {{firstname}} field was properly populated.  It is just when I use a template using the e-mail link from the agenda that the fields are not populated.  I have been using this PS info reminder template for years, and unless I've really missed the obvious, {{firstname}} has always been properly populated.  Yes, the variables drop down is not present there, and I can't claim that it ever was, but I truly believe that the {{firstname}} field, if not others, was populated when sending an e-mail from the agenda using a template.
Am I bonkers?

Nothing has changed.  MAILTO links do not populate variables.  Perhaps you used the Agenda emailer but selected omit agenda from the drop down?

You are making me think that allowing template variables where there are currently mailto links could be a good idea... I will give you that...

Right now, though, they are just plain mailto links.

I vote for the enhancement, so that I use my template when contacting a meeting participant via the agenda, but considering it more today, I suppose it's not terribly important, since I'm contacting ONE person and it's easy enough to simply type her name.  All my other templates relate to sending the agenda via e-mail or sending e-mail to folks/groups in the Membership Management module, where variables are enabled.
Maybe one day when you're really bored.  :<;)

FYI: When one does send via agenda line item, the advisory e-mail sent to the sender does mention variable replacement: "The following email (w/ any variable replacements) was sent to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it."
