Hi All,

To learn/relearn some abilities I haven't used lately for work, I spent a few hours churning a HTML/CSS printable version out what our club's agenda looks like as an exercise to build on my CSS/HTML/JS skills.

I've read elsewhere in these forums that returning a printable agenda here is a challenge—I believe a lot of the challenge is tackled in this proof-of-concept.

Thus, I humbly submit what I would LOVE the agenda print out to be like for us to use weekly here. Here is a live demo link: firinglife.com/TM-Agenda-HTML/ and the files (html, css and the TI logo in SVG format) are attached also.

A few caveats:
  • Not knowing the mechanism for grabbing roles, I didn't want to put too much time into putting unknown field headings in, etc...this a proof of concept (though I assume it's probably a php loop that pulls an array out of mysql).
  • It dosn't print *perfect*, but it comes quite close in Chrome. Close enough.
  • I'm particularly proud of the javascript buttons. They will let someone re-size different parts of the agenda in order to tweak it to fit the page. Not bad for 0 training in javascript. If I had infinite time and ability, I would add plus and minus toggles instead of buttons and make the resizing a bit more intelligent.
  • There needs to be server-side scripting to fix colspan=2 since the agenda is basically an HTML table, and some things, like speech info and word of the day, need more than one column or they mess it up.
  • To account for the different sections of the meeting, I have div-ed them up (business meeting, speaking program, break, evaluations, table topics, closing). FreeToastHost doesn't between the sections...not sure how or if this could be implemented... Having a design background, adding "visual semantics" is important to me.
  • Logic that adds a <br> after the speech/manual info if the the line is too long would be nice
  • Yes, our club does Table Topics last.

Let me know what you think. FTH is free to use this if they want or not. There's probably typos in it to lol...it's a proof of concept.
