New members may be confused about how to change settings in their website member profile.

Because of this, I am thinking that the system could show a prompt to allow them to load their member profile when the *prior* password was *blank* when entering a new password. This scenario would exist for new members entering a password for the first time.

The reason I am thinking of this is because I am planning to add more member specific settings in the future.... if members do not know how to access their member profile, that could be problematic.

Hi Steve!!

Getting members to fill in their profile is always a struggle, and anything that could help would be welcome. One suggestion though...

A lot of new members logging in may see enough new things to do that they'll shy away from having to think any harder than they're already doing. When you give that prompt, if you can add an "Ask me later" option, I'm guessing that a significant number will be agreeable to considering it once they're more familiar with the rest of the website.

Thanks...

Wes B.

Ok, this has been implemented--it was fairly easy as it just required checking if their existing password was blank. I did not do the "Ask me later" bit--that would require a whole new bit of logic and storage mechanism and if members do not want to work on it later, then they should just answer "No" to the prompt and access their profile in the normal way. This simple prompt only requires simple logic and does not require any additional storage.

If anyone wants to test this, just create a new dummy member w/ an email address you can access (or temporary switch your existing email to it) and go through the motions as if you were a new member requesting their password.
