I've registered a domain name for our club (we didn't have one before) with 1&1 and I'm now trying to get it to play nicely with the freetoasthost set up. I think I've got the first part done - pointing it towards the website. However, the control panel at 1&1 is not like any of the examples given in the help pages here.
I'm attaching a screen shot of the 1&1 control panel. Can anyone guide me through how these settings should be configured? thanks!

Just to add, the part of the registration dealing with just pointing the newly registered domain name to our freetoasthost site is working fine. (I just received confirmation at the club site's admin console.) I'm concerned about not having changed anything in the email settings at 1&1. Any additional help greatly appreciated.

I'm still not 100% sure whether I've done this right, but at least 1&1 accepted the changes to the mail settings this time. I guess time will tell whether I succeeded. Thanks for your rapid responses. ~ Elena

Thanks Brian. The 1and1 control panel does not let me see how to implement the changes you suggest. Since I really need to get the email part functioning, I'm contacting 1and1's technical support by email, including your changes/corrections, and asked them how I can do those. Just sent that off, and I'm not sure how long they'll take to reply. Meanwhile, I see that the original email addresses are still visible (as long as you enter the website through the original address) and they still work, so we haven't completely lost function while I'm trying to resolve this. Anyway, thanks for sticking with me, and I'll let you know what I find out from 1and1.

Still not doing well with the email portion, though everything else seems to be functioning OK. I did a DNS check at 1and1 of both the domain (uspeakeasy.com) and subdomain (mail.uspeakeasy.com ) and here's what shows (below). Can you advise me what's wrong so maybe I can go back to 1&1 and tell them what I need to achieve? Thanks!

DNS check of uspeakeasy.com
Domain name : uspeakeasy.com
IP Address (A-Record) : 50.19.253.65
IPv6-Addr. (AAAA-Record) :
Name server 1: ns51.1and1.com
Name server 2: ns52.1and1.com
Mail server 1: mail.uspeakeasy.com, 10

DNS check of mail.uspeakeasy.com subdomain
Domain name : mail.uspeakeasy.com
IP Address (A-Record) : 50.19.253.65
IPv6-Addr. (AAAA-Record) :
Name server 1: ns51.1and1.com
Name server 2: ns52.1and1.com
Mail server 1: mail.uspeakeasy.com, 10

Elena everything looks good with your domain now.
Depends on when you local DNS refreshes, try again later today or tomorrow.

Brian, I wanted you to know that it's all resolved. While I still don't "speak geek" - so I only have a vague feel for what went right and where things went wrong, at least everything - new domain name and email addresses using that domain - all works now. Again, thanks for your patience and help.
