I set up a MailChimp account for our club, created a list and a newsletter and things were going fine. I drafted a couple of newsletters and was able to send tests of them, from MailChimp, to the "officers@" club alias. A week or so back I started getting server errors when I did this:

"You do not have the right permissions to send an e-mail to this address from <my personal email address> . Be sure your "From" address in your e-mail client is the same as your address in your ToastmastersClubs.org member profile."

Our MailChimp profile lists the email address as the club VPPR's email address. The email address on my profile here is also the club VPPR's address. I checked my profile on our club's website and it correctly points to my personal email address.

All of this was working fine until a week or so ago. Around the same time our Toastmaster for our just-held meeting was emailing all the members to have them fill roles. Turns out those emails never went out.

NOTE: I CAN email successfully from my personal email to the "officers@" email alias.

The email distribution lists are very restricted in that the sender's email must be listed in Membership Management. This is to lessen the chance of members being spammed--the members are considered to be whitelisted.

If you want to get around the restriction, then you might send to a list of the individual officer email aliases rather than the "officers@" list. The officer email aliases don't have the restriction.

Thanks for responding.

Everything WAS working. Before I scheduled the newsletters to be sent, I would send a test email to the "officers@" email alias. The emails went fine, were delivered, and I got feedback from the other officers. Using the same exact settings as I have now. Nothing was changed yet, NOW it doesn't work.

Anyone can send emails to officers@ email alias, but only members can send to members.

When you say that the mailchimp is set to your VPPR email, is it set to the personal email or the alias?

My personal email address is no where in the MailChimp account. That's set to my club officer alias.

To me, the crux of the matter is it DID work, I haven't changed anything, and now it DOESN'T work.

When you tested, you sent it to officers, correct? Did you ever test it to members?

Correct. I would send it to the officers alias for feedback, corrections, etc. I didn't send it to the members alias. Due to MailChimp's restrictions, people have to opt in to the mailing list. So it was sent out to a list of individual email addresses when it went out "live".

I just spent the last few minutes trying to figure out a graceful way to admit this but .... I DIDN'T send the drafts to the officers alias. I was only sending it to the president and vped and I used their personal email addresses.

I can't tell you how embarrassed I am  and how sorry I am for wasting everyone's time. My apologies.

Just to clarify - I wasn't lying when I said I sent it to the officers alias. I was absolutely SURE I had but, reflecting on it now - I realize I didn't. Embarrassing but I've learned in life that it's better to 'fess up that try to BS your way out of it.

I'm a software developer in "real" life and, I've learned that there's ALWAYS a log SOMEWHERE and it's always best to 'fess up so the IT/hardware guys don't spend hours tracing "ghosts".

(Thank GOD my term as VPPR is up in a couple of months!)
