I recently started entering data into what will become our club website at 3862.toastmastersclubs.org and am experiencing an issue in the Private Member Directory.

I serve as the VPPR and am currently the only member listed and with a login. I entered information into the Private Member Directory in both the "Club Officer Notes" and "Brief Member Bio" sections. I saved it, but the information in the Brief Member Bio deleted. I attempted to include content in the section again by typing "test" and then saving again. However, it deleted the content upon review again. It simply isn't accepting data.

Please advise.

Which browser are you using? If it's Internet Explorer, have you adjusted the cookie settings according to support.toastmastersclubs.org/faq#moofaqCat-11?

It may also be useful to clear the browser cache, which seems to cause problems for a number of people.

The brief member Bio is updated by the member using the "Edit Your Profile"

My browser is Google Chrome. Brian - when I was logged in via the Member Login, I was able to edit my profile and put in the content I wanted. Thank you.

I went through some testing and discovered that the issue only presents itself when you are logged in as yourself AND as the admin login. When this occurs, if you click on the "Private Member Directory" link, it provides editable areas for both the Club Officer Notes and Brief Member Bio (I don't know if Club Officer Notes would be available if I was the admin and NOT an officer).

No matter what you type into the Brief Member Bio, after you save, close and reopen, whatever was already typed in there via the "Edit Your Profile" link is still there (or nothing, if nothing was there). There is certainly a way to fill in the data along the normal paths. However, it doesn't make any sense that both of the sections are editable via the "Private Member Directory" link for the admin's Member account if you actually can't change it. Probably just one of those flukes, especially since I was logged in both as the admin and myself.

Thanks!

Eva,

If the member wants you to enter their bio, you would enter their name for the log in and your admin password. Then you could enter their bio and save, log out and log in as another member to do the same.

What I am seeing:

Eva is looking a the Private Member Directory, *not* Edit Your Profile.

I can confirm that once I am logged in as both the Admin and as a member (simultaneously), both Club Officer Notes and Brief Member Bio show up.

If I am only logged in as a member (set as an officer), then I only get the Club Officer Notes in this listing. (No Brief Member Bio)

If I make myself a normal member (not an officer), then I do not see either box in this listing when I am only logged in as a member. (not as the admin at the same time)

While the save issue is also important (I have not forgotten it), I think a review of what is the *intended* behavior is relevant. In other words, what should an officer see and be able to change (& how to best indicate that as available) and what should an admin see and be able to change (& how to best indicate that as available)?

Did some forum searches... relevant threads:

Eva,
It seems that you should see and be able to edit/save the Club Officer Notes box if you are an officer and logged in as an officer. However, being an officer does not get the Brief Member Bio to show up in the Private Member Directory... the admin log in does.

We do get a number of admins that want to enter the Bio information for the club members, and I think we have almost always directed them to log in one at a time as the individual club members using the admin password to make the updates.

Are you interested in updating this information for your various club members using the Private Member Directory?

Honestly, I hadn't gotten that far. At the very least, I would want to do it for the officers who might not be as Internet savvy.

Eva,

One thing to be careful of though is respecting the right of the individual member that does not want a bio, a picture or to be made public. If at all possible, make sure you have their permission.

Well, for right now, I would suggest just using logging in as your officers using their name and the admin password via the member login, as we have recommended to others. You can also set their profiles as Public there, which makes them show up in the Meet Our Members public listing. (I always suggest asking for permission first before making them public, though.)

In the mean time, we will need to sort out what is the best approach for the Private Member Directory / Brief Member Bio situation,
