I've had this white frame blocking my edit windows frequently when using FTH.

Screen capture enclosed.

Is it just a ghost for halloween... or something we can eliminate? (I am hoping the later!)

THANKS!
THANK YOU!

You have put an "iframe" on the page. Usually iframes are for including information from other sites. What is the page you are trying to change.?

How would I have done that and how would I get rid of it?
Yes, that's the page... it happens on lots of them, it stays at the bottom of the edit window and often blocks the final content.

How w/could I get rid of it?
THANK YOU!

Be careful what you delete, particularly when it comes to IFRAMEs.

If you insert embedded content such as a video or other embedded content into your page, frequently the page editor will reserve space for that content in the editor window with the IFRAME block, but the editor will not actually show the embedded content in the editor window since the editor is designed for page ***editing, not page viewing***. For example, if you use the embedding tool (button with musical notes), it will frequently create these IFRAME blocks that reserve space for the embedded content.

Therefore, you may not always recognize what the IFRAME box really is saving space for until you save the page and view it outside of the page editor. (However, you can usually right click on the IFRAME though and select iFrame Properties from the displayed menu to determine which URL the iFrame is associated with.) Frequently, when working with embedded content, you will need to switch back and forth from the Page Editor view to the normal page editing view. (I hope to make this switching back and forth simpler in the future.)

If the IFRAME box is preventing you from effectively editing your content, then you should maximize the editor to full screen view with the maximize button at the bottom right of the editor's icons (looks like an X with arrows ).

This makes more sense...

but I am not sure what I am "embedding".
I add the URLs for images, pdfs, and weblinks... is this what you are calling embedding?
THANK YOU!

Next time you see the Iframe, try clicking on the Source button and look for a section of code that begins with <iframe

What's in the rest of the line may give you a clue.

but I am not sure what I am "embedding"

I am assuming that you are using the embedding tool with the musical notes on it. It will make it easy to include media content in your pages, although the fact that most of it will be embedded with iframes should make you think a little more about the manner in which you include content in your web pages. In addition to inspecting the underlying HTML source in Source View as Jane is pointing you to, I believe you can right click on an iframe in the editor and select iFrame Properties from the displayed menu to inspect any iframe's properties, including which URL it is associated with.

When you embed something, the browser will attempt to show an actual view of the item in an frame (window in the page), hence the term "iframe". iframes are nice visually, but they can slow down your pages loading considerably, so you should judiciously use them just for content that you need from other websites. However, as you are seeing, the editor will not render iframe content--you just get the IFRAME box.

Other approaches that are often faster...

1. For photos, use the image tool whenever possible. Much faster retrieval on page loads. Also, the editor *will* render photos (<img>tag) unlike iframes.

2. Consider whether you really need your members/users to be able to see the actual content in the page (embedded) or whether you just need to provide access to it for them. If you just need to provide access to it, then inserting a link to it is often a better approach... it is always faster on the page load, also. You can insert a link with the link tool in the editor (look for the button with the chain links on it).

Regardless of the approach, it is also very important to locate your content somewhere that you will not need to relocate later. If you later relocate it, any location references to it in your pages will be basically broken links and the page will not render correctly. (Jane and I were recently reminded about this.) Location references are *not* automatically updated if you relocate the referenced content.

So the key is understanding what the various approaches are and what the pros and cons are of each approach.

That is correct.

basically broken links and the page will not render correctly. (Jane and I were recently reminded about this.)

If you look around the support section, you'll see numerous messages about people who locked themselves out of their websites because of this kind of thing. (Yours truly included  ) Therefore, a good thing to avoid if at all possible.
