New FTH 2.0 site and trying to set a Custom Website Domain...

I believe that I have set up the DNS for our club's domain
which is fstoastmasters.org
and tested it at the following test site:
www.dnsstuff.com/tools#dnsReport|type=do...e=fstoastmasters.org

but still get the following error message when trying to save the Custom Website Domain:
"This domain is not yet pointing to the IP address 50.19.253.65. In your domain registrar's DNS area, modify the exisitng "A" and "MX" records for this domain, to point to 50.19.253.65, wait the amount of time as specified by your domain host, then try again."

Can you tell if I have done something wrong in attempting to set a custom domain?

Thanks & Regards,

Wes Rogers

Wes,

You have no custom domain set up on your club website.

Here is the link to our documentation on custom domains: support.toastmastersclubs.org/docs/item/...r-various-registrars

Hi Roger,

I thought that I had followed all of the directions in that documentation. I changed three A records and one MX record all to point to 50.19.253.65. The link that I posted to dnsstuff.com demonstrates the results of the DNS changes in my nameservers.

When I attempt to enter the our domain, fstoastmasters.org, in the Custom Website Domain on the Site Administration page and click the Save button, it fails and shows the error message in my original message.

Have I done something wrong?

Thanks & Regards,

Wes

Wes,

I am by far not the best authority on custom domains. Please be patient and Brian or Steve can probably give you the best advice.

Thanks, Brian!

I found and fixed the MX record that showed mail.fstoastmasters.org.fstoastmasters.org (twice). In my DNS console, I had to remove the domain and simply put in "mail".

For the others, I don't see what you see. Using DNS tools and plugging in fstoastmasters.org, I get the following now:

A record found: 50.19.253.65
Domain Type TTL Answer
fstoastmasters.org. NS 14400 ns0.nameservices.net.
fstoastmasters.org. NS 14400 ns1.nameservices.net.
fstoastmasters.org. A 14400 50.19.253.65

MX record found: 10 mail.fstoastmasters.org.
Domain Type TTL Answer
fstoastmasters.org. MX 14400 10 mail.fstoastmasters.org.

Could you tell me how you are viewing the DNS records that, to FTH, still look to be pointing to the wrong address?

Thanks Again & Best Regards,

Wes

There are a variety of reporting tools available. I think Brian is using a Linux based tool.

You can also use the viewdns.info/ tools. Look at the "DNS Record Lookup" or "DNS Report".

Thanks, Steve!
That was helpful. I found the problem and got it working now.

The syntax of my domain provider's DNS management console required me to include a trailing period after the www and mail URLs in the A record section. Once I put in the trailing periods and let it propagate, it was good to go.

Best Regards,

Wes
