We have a member who is not receiving the 'Top of the Morning Toastmasters Club Member Authentication E-mail' - how do we completely reset the login? We have worked on this before, now when he tries to login I get the authentication email in my mail box.

Thanks

Most likely, the member does not have an email in membership management. If they do not, then you can click the authentication link and assign them a password.

In order for us to verify the no email, we would need the members first name (and last initial if you have another member with the same first name).

Before we close this out I will let you know if Matt Blasdel is successful or not - probably later today.

Why do so many of our members struggle with this? How does it work? Does it matter how the name is entered in the membership list on the club web site? Is the member listing on our web site in any way tied to the club roster on toastmasters.org?

I guess I am asking is how all this works. On the membership list on our club web site it says email telephone number are optional.

So this must be some kind of name match?

Should we enter all the names exactly as they are on the roster at toastmasters.org?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Richard

You can enter a name any way you want (the member can also change their name in Edit Your Profile). The email is the unique identifier. If there is no email, the system will assign a unique generic email address. However, the admin will have to authenticate the password for them.

What many members experience is that the authentication email may end up in the junk folder.

I think that many members struggle with the concept of "authenticating" and not putting in a password to retrieve their password.

"Authenticating" is just a big word that just means proving your identity.

We may need to add a "I forgot my password" button/link in the future since many members don't seem to get the concept of the not entering a password to get an email link.

If Matt has problems tonight - is it possible that I as site admin can set up a password for him? I understand I enter his name then the site admin password - then what happens?

Okay - I can't set a password for a member. Why do the instruction docs say this:
'
To login as another member
(useful for sorting out problems with the member's account)

Enter that member's name or email address.
Click on their ID number.
Enter the administrator's password.
Click on the login / authenticate button.
'
Is this just to show that the member name can be logged into?

What you can do is what I have done for one of the members in my club... Select their name from the member login drop down, but do not enter a password and click the Authenticate/Login button. You would be doing that for them.

When you do that they will get an email with a link in it. When they click the link it will take them directly to where they enter their password.

So, no you cannot enter the password for them, but you can smooth the process for them a little bit.

That is not setting their password that is fooling the system into thinking you are the member. However, the system still has the member's email address so any attempt to change the password will send the authentication link to their email address not yours.
