Recently I (and I assume the rest of my club) got an email on the club email list (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) from Hostway Marketing asking basically if I wanted to continue receiving their emails (recent Canadian anti-spam laws require companies that send mass emails to reconfirm this choice on or around July 1, 2014 even if you explicitly asked for the service before). My concern is that I thought only email addresses on the club email list could send to the membership list - I recall once I couldn't even email the members because I was accidentally logged in to an email address I don't use for Toastmasters. So how did This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. manage to send an email to all our members if that is not an email on the membership list?

The email was sent to your admin alias not the members list.

You received this on your This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. email address... tcmail log entry follows:
SUCCESS (User Email) Mon Jul 7 22:32:53 UTC 2014 Club:«2375» From:«marketing@hostway.com ()» To:«admin@vitalwords.ca>xxxxxxx@shaw.ca» CC:«» Subject:«Continue to Receive Communication from Hostway»

admin email alias is a *publically available email address*. There are no other entries in tcmail.log from this sender to your club.

Since you cannot shut off this alias (not for admin), your option is to black list the sender's email address if you wish. Since that is a feature coming out in version 2.20 that is not yet released, I can put the senders address on your club black list for you if you wish. You will be able to access your black list once 2.20 is released.

Thanks! I have no way to tell if something is sent to admin or members, so thanks for discovering that.

I'll just "unsubscribe" from it using their provided links.
