Hi

I have at least two officers who say that emails to contact@etc and officers@etc don't work and both are sending via Hotmail. For one person at least the (anonymised) failure message is:

From: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
To: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Date: Sat, 2 Aug 2014 03:06:39 -0700
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect successfully to the destination mail server.

Please post your club number in every post

As you have not put your club number in i cannot see if you have defined officers and contacts.

I checked and the domains seems to be defined correctly.

Can you post when entire email header in this thread so we can see the IP tracking.

Also please have them try to your numbered email addresses. contact-nnnnnnnn or officers-nnnnnnn

Thanks for the quick reply Brian. Could explain a bit more about the club number not being present please? I did add the details to my signature as per the sticky...

I'll try and get some more details and do some more tests however everything is working normally (and has been since I set things up several years ago) for everyone else. It's just these Hotmail people who have problems.

I want to see if it is the domain or something else that is stopping the emails from your people.

Thanks for that Brian. I have requested the information, however one person is on away holiday and neither are super-technical regarding the ability to send me the complete header so it may be a few days until I can post back with more details.

I have seen a number of issues with Hotmail since MS revamped it.

I got a Hotmail account a few months ago for email testing purposes, and had a few headaches getting it to handle FTH email properly.

Your members need to pay close attention to the Hotmail email security settings... they need to look through those closely and set up FTH to be a safe sender. Other settings may also be relevant, but it took me a bit of fiddling to get it to handle FTH email properly for me.

Hi Steve

Thanks for that. You mention setting up FTH to be a safe sender - was your problem receiving mail from FTH? My problem is about sending email to FTH using the aliases. It is getting to Hotmail servers okay but then just sits there until Hotmail sends a delay message and then finally a failed message. It's like the Hotmail servers are either blacklisted by intermediate relaying servers or the FTH server is refusing the connection.

Do you know how to get full headers with IP addresses from Hotmail by any chance? My users are sending me what looks like header information but there are no IP addresses.

Many thanks!

Cheers - Graham

Hi Brian

These addresses fail in the same way as the southwestspeakers.org.uk ones do. Still working on getting header information.

Graham... I found that setting up FTH as a safe sender facilitated me sending to the lists, also. I had the same issue with sending to the lists and aliases.

It is an issue with Hotmail and configuring it properly. I know from experience.

Re: Headers... open the email, click the Actions menu, then select View Message Source. The complete email source including headers with IP addresses will show on the displayed screen. (probably in a new browser tab)

Thanks for that Steve. Meantime I have the headers as below although I think it just confirms that Hotmail's requests to connect to FTH are being refused.

I've asked them to resend test emails, but at 12:18 BST today an email that was sent on 5 August arrived from a Hotmail user. Has the problem been identified?

Sorry Brian - I'm on holiday at the moment and sneaking in the odd email so not being as verbose as I otherwise would be. The email that came through was from one of my blocked Hotmail officers ( Kate).

Are you able to reveal the cause of the problem? Is there a universal fix or do all Hotmail users need individual attention?
