A few days ago, part of the contents on the home page disappeared while I was updating it. Brian was able to recover part of it and I repaired the rest. This morning ALL of the contents on the home page disappeared while I was updating.

I used the suggestion Steve gave about finding the page in the Google Cache. I did find the page, but now I need help to copy the contents back to the home page. How do I go about this?

I think I have jinxed the home page.
Mary

I think I've solved this one on my own, but can you tell me what keeps happening?
This is not a fun game to play!

Mary,

I am not sure exactly what is going on. Perhaps you can give us some more details to help us help you.

For one thing, note that every website is running the same code, so if it was something in our code I would expect others to be reporting an issue, also.

However, it is possible that something you are typing in the editor or doing with the editor is unintentionally triggering a problem.

So... lets start with the basic information and see where that leads us. Ok?

First, can you give me some information about your system and browser? What OS are you using? Which browser and browser version are you using?

Are you only seeing the problem with your home page or also with other pages?

I am running Windows 7 on a 64 bit HP. Firefox is the browser I use. So far, only the home page has been affected.

I'm certain it is something I've done....leave it to me to find a problem.

When I was updating the home page, I was adding photos from the TI website both times this happened......took me a few days to realize this. Since then, I have saved the photos to my computer, opened them in Photoshop, re-saved them, uploaded them to the website and everything worked fine. It was just a trial on my part to see if processing them through Photoshop made any difference.
(There appeared to be something attached to the photos, but since I'm not a techie, who knows what it was.)

Steve, thank you again for the hint in "Google Cache." That saved me a lot of work.

For now, all is well in my world. I certainly appreciate you guys help. This has been a huge learning experience.

I've tested this and it did work:

I copied the source code from a current page, saved it to word, opened a blank custom page on the website, pasted the source code from the original page and it created a duplicate page. This will allow me to at least backup periodically and won't have to start from scratch should I cause another crash......which I probably will.

If you don't break something.....you're not trying hard enough!

Based on what you are telling me, here is something to consider...

The content editor that we use does *not* do a very good job of accepting information *pasted* into it from *external* sources--the results may be unpredictable. I know it has a Paste from Word icon, but even that is sometimes a bit unpredictable. Copy/pasting text within the editor works fine... it is the pasting of *external information* that is dicey.

If you save to your computer then upload an image, you should be fine. However, copy/pasting an image into the editor will generally not work. This area of accepting external information is something that the developer of the editor (we did not develop it) is actively working on currently to improve... I keep an eye on their development efforts, since the editor is such a key part of FTH.
