:( This member's problem has been going on since early December. Please help! Somehow the letters 'AC' have become attached to his name when it appears in the drop-down-window that pops up when he selects the "Member Login" tab. When he begins entering the first few letters of his name, his whole name pops up with the "AC" after it. And of course, when he tries to log in with his name and the letters ' AC' attached he is treated to an "error" message. The member has achieved his 'CC' designation. I have thoroughly checked the member database, no where does his name appear with the letters 'AC' after his name. 1. Would the problem be solved if we could 're-set' the password? 2. Would the problem be solved by entirely deleting his profile from our database (are the letters 'AC' connected to his name in a place that I can't see)? Please help and thank you! Club 1289

The AC or CC does not matter.

Have the user click the reload link at the bottom of your site.

Hi Brian,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply yesterday. I passed along your suggestion to the member/user, and just now received his reply: "Nothing at all happened when I clicked the blue tab that says: "Click here to reload website from server". I tried clicking it before I entered my name and again after entering my name. Each time I waited for some kind of response, but nothing happened.
Just in case I had missed something I then went back and tried to log into the member portal and was denied with the same "error" message." I am the VP Education for the Club, Toronto #1 Toastmasters. Mike is one of our strongest contributors to the Club, and I would dearly like to find an answer to his problem. As I mentioned, this problem has been going on since the beginning of December.

You have two Michaels in your club. When I type in "Mich" on your site both pop up, one with a "CC". "Mike" brings the one with the CC up as that is the start of his email address. Get him to type in his full email address and not select the popup name with the errant "AC" and see if that clears the problem for future use - he should be able to just type in 4 or 5 letters and select the name which should be as it is on your site.

I wonder if the name with "AC" is something sitting in his cache - ask him to try accessing the site the normal way using another browser if possible - if that works he might need to clear his cache.

If none of that works please let us know what browser and operating system he is using.

Dear Pam,

Thank you for your reply.

The member/user followed your instructions:
I tried it and, interestingly, by pushing through with typing my whole name the AC after my name DID disappear. At first that seemed promising. But I still couldn't get in. When I typed my whole name the one with the AC in the drop-down window disappeared. I entered my password and clicked "authenticate" then got this message:
You have errors in your form below. Please scroll down and correct the following:
You must select your name from the displayed drop down list for the login to be accepted. Start typing your name or e-mail, then select your name from the list. If your name does not appear, then the admin has not entered your contact information into this website yet.
[/i]

The member/user is using windows 7 and Google Chrome. However, he is asking if I could just wipe him off the system and then reenter his information. Is any reason NOT to do that?
Thank you. Marenca

Hi Marenca

Please do not delete the member off your system as you will lose any history, especially agenda roles he has had. Re-entering his name won't clear his problem anyway. I think the wrong name is stored in his cache somehow. Has he tried clearing his cache?

If he types in his email address in full, he will be able to access the system without having to select his name from the drop down.

If his correct name shows up in the box as he is typing in his email address, he should select it. Hopefully that will add it to what is in his cache and he will in future see the correct name as well as the one with AC (if he doesn't clear his cache), when he uses his name to access the system. If the correct name doesn't show up in the select box ( I am hoping / confident that it will), his full email address will always let him in.

Hooray; The suggestion of the tech support person to enter my e-mail address instead of my name WORKED. For some reason my password no longer worked, but I was able to change that so now I AM AGAIN ABLE TO ENTER THE WEBSITE AS A MEMBER. My name still pops up with the "AC" after it, but so long as I ignore it I can bypass the problem.

Glad to hear your user can at least access the system now. The "phantom" name with AC should, however, not show up. The correct name should show (I suspect it is somewhere there, but hidden by something else). Please get him to try the following:

Start typing his name until the phantom name shows in the box.
Highlight the phantom name and press the Delete Key (Shift + Delete on Mac)
Continue typing in his name. I am hoping the correct name will show up. If so click on it, then enter the password and login.

Hopefully that will clear the phantom name for ever, and he will have normal access in future.

This AC could be in the user's autocomplete data for their browser which is not a FTH2 issue. This would explain why it does not show up in the Membership info.

Here is some info on clearing autocomplete history: www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000553.htm
