Hello. I am unable to access my club's website through Internet Explorer. It works fine in Chrome. At least one other club member is having a similar issue.

My club number is 00009141 and our website is the following: amd.toastmastersclubs.org/

Below are images of a non-working case in IE and a working case in Chrome. I am using IE11. My co-worker is using an older version.

Both of us first noticed the problem last week, when we came back to work after the holidays.

Any help in resolving the issue is greatly appreciated.

Since you may not be able to access the link mentioned in the doc that Brian is referring to, please do the following for IE11:

Internet Explorer

Use one of the following:
  • Hold the Ctrl key and press the F5 key.
  • Hold the Ctrl key and click the "Refresh" button on the toolbar.

BTW, I use IE11 and I am able to access your website.

Thank you, Brian and Steve. I tried both of Steve's suggestions, but I still get the same result in IE (picture NotWorkin.jpg in original post).

There are several other reports from users not being able to access the club site through IE. What all of the reporters have in common is that we all work in the same work place. It is possible that our workplace pushed an update over the Holiday break which is causing this behavior.

Are there any options/add-ons to IE that can cause this behavior? Any other ideas?

FTH requires the use of Javascript and cookies.

Did you try the site on your home computer?

I just double checked and JavaScript and cookies are both enabled.

Let me try the site from my home computer tonight, and I'll report back. I am also curious to try my work laptop, but from home - not logged into my employers network. This should tell us if it's a browser issue or a firewall issue.

I tried several experiments from home and here are the results:
From work (work PC)From home (work PC)From home (home PC)
IEProblemOK OK
ChromeOK OK OK

The issue seems to be confined to IE running on my employer's network. Any ideas?

I would suggest talking to your employer's IT department.

Someone else had a similar problem using IE. She found that clicking the compatibility icon located at the end of the address bar restored the page. The icon looks like a sheet of paper torn in half.

You might have "fixed" your problem by accessing the site from home. If your access is still good when you get back to work, get your colleague to try clicking on the icon described above and see if that helps, before referring to the IT department.

Compatibility mode should not be left enabled... it causes other issues.

Can you please do me a favor and try the following:

In IE from your work computer and your incompletely loaded website, press the F12 key. That will enable the developer tools. Just minimize the developer tools window that shows up.

Using Ctrl + F5 , reload your website without the cache. When you do this, the developer tools should catch any errors that it is finding.

If the developer tools window is not showing, then press the F12 key again or select the window from the taskbar at the bottom.

>>>What you are looking for is something in the bottom pane of the developer tools window that says Error... it should be in red if there is an error.

If this does not help sort this out, I may ask you to run some test code for me.

Here is an error that is reported:

SCRIPT5009: 'Element' is undefined
File: utilities.min.js, Line: 1, Column: 9387

Attaching a screen shot.

It also looks like I am running in Compatibility mode.

Please do *not* do this in compatibility mode. The error you are seeing could be from compatibility mode itself. (It causes issues.)

As I explained earlier, compatibility mode frequently causes as many issues as it resolves.

Sometimes compatibility mode works, sometimes it does not.
