Greetings,

Whenever an e-mail is sent from my club's website to the membership, it always has the name of our club secretary instead of the name of the person who sent the e-mail.

EXAMPLE: Toastmasters Club 771880 on behalf of Valerie Lyons (when it should say on behalf of Cassandra Lee)

How can I update this issue?

I am assuming that you mean that you send it from "Send Basic Email" in Membership Management, correct?

Are you logged in as member or as the admin when doing the send? (it matters)

Thanks for the great question StevetheTechie.

For any of my members who use the "Club E-mail Addresses" function to e-mail the entire club, this issue happens as we are logged in as a member.

Ok, I am still bit unclear as to what steps you are doing... When you say you are using the Club E-mail Addresses function, do you mean you click an address there and it pulls up your email software to send an email. "Club E-mail Addresses" is really more of a listing than a function (but you can send email from it if you have your email client set up properly).

Whenever we use "Club E-mail Addresses" to gain access to our group e-mail address of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., the sent e-mail shows up in Inboxes as "Toastmasters Club 771880 on behalf of Valerie Lyons" (when it should say on behalf of Cassandra Lee or the name of the other members who sent the actual e-mail).

Is there a way to fix this?

Are you sending the email from within hotmail and typing in This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ? Again, the details matter if I am to be able to help you get this resolved.

Please bear with me... There are some subtle nuances to email features, so I need to get very specific.

We're copying and pasting that e-mail address using our e-mail providers (i.e. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo). Me, personally, yes, I'm using Hotmail.

Okey dokie... that is what I needed to understand. Thank you! :)

There is an email name caching issue that people sometimes run into with some email providers (e.g., gmail), but I do not think that is the issue here, so I will probably need to do a bit more digging.

Can you give me a specific email (to/from, date, time, subject) with the issue that I can hunt down in our logs to do some further digging?

Sorry for all the back and forth, but as I noted, email can be a bit tricky.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. However, it shows up in my inbox as sent from Toastmasters Club 771880 on behalf of Valerie Lyons.

Thanks for looking into this.

I am having a little trouble figuring this one out... :?

Can you please send a test email to your members list, but put the following at the very beginning of the subject line? {{savelog,savein,saveout,nosend,trace}}

Nothing should actually be sent, but put a note in the email just in case something slips by.

This should trace the email logic and provide some diagnostic files for me to review. Just let me know when you have done that.

Ok, did you still see the issue in the email as received on your end?

The reason I ask is that I am not seeing an issue with the raw outgoing emails as captured by the test... take a look at the attachment, particularly the lines starting with "From:". They all look correct to me.

That means if you are still seeing an issue on your end, it is likely a name caching issue with your email provider... It can be challenging to resolve... you can try creating a contact entry for the server email address. That may work.

Attached is the email logic trace, also. No logic issues observed.

I have the same problem from my club site. This has been true for years but it just became a serious problem.
All email sent by any member to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is received by members as "on behalf of Kemal Akozer."

Kemal died Sunday so this is a real concern.

I am the website administrator and I have searched all over the site and I can't find anything that causes it. Please fix this as soon as you can.

On closer examination, it probably is on my end since when I hit reply it shows the message as being "on behalf of" the sender not Kemal. I use Thunderbird to read mail that's coming in from a Yahoo based account, and it looks like the "on behalf of" is correct on Yahoo too.

I guess this is a Thunderbird problem for me.

I use Thunderbird, and I'm guessing that there is an old entry in your Thunderbird address book with Kemal's name attached to it.

Either delete the entry altogether, or edit it to remove Kemal's name. You could also uncheck "Prefer display name over message header" and see if that helps, too.
