When I send e-mail from the address I have in my profile to my new SAA using his FTH alias, I receive two e-mail messages from FTH:

You do not have the right permissions to send an e-mail to this e-mail address (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Be sure your "From" address in your e-mail client is the same as your address in your toastmastersclubs.org member profile.

I'm not using BCC (found that out the hard way many moons ago) so I'm left scratching my head here.

Yeah, right now, the email list server is not designed to tell you in a bounce message that a club officer has declined to receive emails via their officer email address... I am not sure that we should create new bounce message for that, even though the current situation does cause some confusion. :unsure:

SAA says box was checked inadvertently, so that's corrected and all is well. Thanks, Roger, as the confusion to which Steve refers defintely had me baffled, as I'd seen that message in the past when I had used the BCC method of sending. My $0.02 is that there should be a unique (i.e. informative) bounce message, otherwise folks will be scratching their heads, as I was.

Well, mainly this is due to how the lists of valid To: email addresses are created for a particular club. We do generate lists of valid email lists and aliases to check against, but we do *not* generate lists of email list addresses that have been disabled. (e.g., officer email aliases, the "contact" email address, etc.) Therefore, if the email list server code detects that a To address is not in the lists of valid email addresses, it does not have any more information than that.

A key consideration is whether we should provide additional information. Part of why we don't is because we do not to provide much information to spammers about how the email system works. In other words, a certain degree of terseness and vagueness in the bounce messages is targeted at throwing spammers off.

So, basically, it is the old convenience vs security debate. Do you want more convenience and clarity in the bounce messages or do you want more email security?
