Hi,

I am the webmaster for Arun Speakers club. Club number etc should now be in my Signature.

We are having a problem with Club e-mail addresses, as follows:

When clicking on a given e-mail address in the club e-mail address list a new pop-up appears. The pop-up gives a choice to either send the e-mail via 'website e-mailer' or via systems e-mail client.

The problem we are having is with website e-mailer option. My colleagues had let me know that e-mails via this method to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. were not getting through.

I ran some tests using the friends@arunspeakers and admin@arunspeakers (because I did not want to send a series of test e-mails to club members). When I send them via 'website e-mailer' the e-mail does not arrive in the intended recipient's e-mail (nor spam folder). I do however receive an acknowledgement e-mail that the e-mail was sent. The confirmation e-mail is worded as follows:

(Confirming e-mail)
The following email (w/ any variable replacements) was sent to:
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It seems that when 'systems e-mail client' is correctly used it works fine, similarly if I copy and paste the e-mail address manually into my e-mail account it also works fine.

I would be grateful for any information.

Regards

Damian

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your message. However, I retested and still had the same problem. I changed the e-mail address so that I was no longer e-mailing myself, and I whitelisted This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I am still getting the same problem ie the e-mail gets through if I send it via system e-mail client, but not if I send it via website e-mailer.

Ok, the pop-up is a new mailto handling feature because people were not getting mailto link's set up correctly in the past.

Let me do some additional testing on the members list.

Ok, I think have this working as intended. Damian, would you be willing to do a few tests on your end for me? If so, here is what I would like you to check:

1. The new pop-up should only work when you are logged in as a member or admin. Otherwise, you should just get routed to the standard system email client. Reason: The system only knows an email address (for the from address) for you when you are logged in as a member or admin.

2. Click on an email link that is going to an FTH list email address. (like before) In that case, the code should set the "From" and "Reply-To" addresses to be your email address as listed in your member profile.

3. Either on an existing custom page or a dummy custom page that you create, put a mailto link there that goes to a non-FTH email address (e.g., another member or a 2nd email address that you may have). Save the page and try clicking on that link from outside the admin console. The code should set the "From" address to be the server address (to prevent the email getting flagged as fraudulant/phishing) and the "Reply-To" address should be your email address. (so you still get replies).

The above works for me, but I would like to see someone else also tell me it works as intended for them. Thanks! :cheer:

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I set up a custom page, (www.arunspeakers.net/test.html) and a link to a not FTH e-mail, ( Johndavies77777777 '@' outlook.com ).

It worked as you described, and both e-mails got through to the e-mail account (albeit the admin one went to the spam account).

Does this mean that in theory e-mails to members should now also get through.

I go away for a few days this evening, but happy to do any more tests you suggest once I am back.

Thanks

Damian

Yes...

However, I am curious about the "admin one went to the spam account"... can you tell me a bit more about that? What did you do when that happened? (Trying to figure out if I need to change something else.) Was the To for that email your email address? (To and From being the same would probably get flagged as spam.)

It was the e-mail to the non FTH e-mail address (Johndavies77777777 '@' outlook.com) which I sent via Website e-mailer in the popup. I sent it about at 2.26pm Uk time.

It was listed as follows:

From: Toastmasters Club 7298 on behalf of Damian Perry <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
