My local computer settings have always been under access of GMT -5 and was wondering how I can fix this. Club number: 3704233

I hope to come up with a creative solution for that in the not too distant future. This is why each club must set a time zone as Brian is pointing you to. (read the doc)

I would recommend that you use the region/city version e.g. America/New York, Europe/Dublin, Pacific/Auckland. I'll update the doc to include this information, later today.

The following is an excerpt from an email exchange I had a while back with Dave Rolsky, the developer of the DateTime code module that we use on the server for processing dates and times... there is more to this exchange than the following, but suffice to say that the list of time zones we currently have could use some scrutiny and clean-up. (I added the red bold formatting.)

There is support in the code that parses the IANA db files to generate these zones, but they're not included by default.

Note that these zones are _very_ confusing, and I strongly recommend against using them. The IANA definition of "Etc/GMT+6" is a zone 6 hours _behind_ UTC. This is a historical POSIX thing. Only very very technical (and probably old) users would ever expect this.

As Rick pointed out, you should encourage people to use zones named for a city anyway, since that way you get the appropriate DST transitions included.
