One of my members, the Treasurer, reported that she can't log into her account and was getting the following error message: “you must be added by the website administrator and have approved your addition to this website before logging in.”

At first, until she sent me the exact message above, I thought that maybe Steve was testing a software change when she tried to log in, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Then I thought maybe she was logging in with her Gmail account rather than her Yahoo account that was registered when she joined years ago, but that also doesn't appear to be the case either. Finally, I suggested that she use her name (and select the full name that pops up - like I do. Her latest reply says that doesn't work. either.

My interpretation of the message suggests that she was recently added but hadn't given permission. But she's a long enough member (since 2016) that she didn't need to approve her inclusion. She wanted to send a second Dues Management message for our 2/18 meeting and update the two checks received at the 2/4 meeting, but can't. She successfully sent the first Dues Management message for our 2/4 meeting. So something changed between after 2/4 and before 2/18. What changed?? (Attached is our Member Management page listing all members, plus our Guest list where I was experimenting with creating one for the first time between 2/4 and 2/18. )

Has the "CC" been added to her name on your website recently? If so, the original name might be stuck in her cache, so when she selects her name she is actually selecting her name without the "CC".

Get her to enter her email address rather than her name, and make sure that when she selects her name the CC is shown. Otherwise she will need to clear her cache (if that is the problem).

Thank you Pam for your suggestion. NO, she earned her CC in 2018, which is about when I added it.
I'll also suggest that she keep using her Yahoo account login (or doesn't it matter if she used her Gmail account instead?

She was able to log in and send the Dues Management message before the 2/4 meeting; but couldn't access her account (to even sign-up for agenda or send another Dues Management message before the 2/18 meeting) since.

The ONLY thing different was that after 2/4 and before 2/18 I as Administrator began experimenting using the GUEST list option for the first time, adding 2 recent guests into a GUEST list (without their permission), along with myself using a different email address. As the attachment shows, The 2 guest entries are still strike-through indicating they never approved their admission into the Guest list. Could a mix-up between the Guest list and Member list have set a flag that locked her out? (Note: I've heard no similar complaints from other members who logged into input speech info or sign-up for roles? I'll remove the 2 guests from the GUEST list and see if that helps her "unlocks" her access..

“you must be added by the website administrator and have approved your addition to this website before logging in.”

is not an error message - that is the default message that shows on the form when anyone clicks the Member Login button. Is she actually trying to log in after seeing that message?

Guest lists don't affect member lists - the only time there will be a problem is if you have a duplicate email address, in which case you'll get an error message and won't ba able to add the person to the second list.

It doesn't matter which email address the member uses - she can even use two.

If she is selecting her name from the drop down and entering a password, she should be able to log in. She'll get an error message (in a pale red box) if she enters an incorrect name / password combination).
If she has forgotten her password she should leave the password field blank and check her email for login instructions.

"is not an error message - that is the default message that shows on the form when anyone clicks the Member Login button. Is she actually trying to log in after seeing that message?"

She tries but she can't Log in. (As I said earlier, she was able to log-in before 2/4 and send a DUES MANAGEMENT message and sign-up on agendas. Then I added myself and 2 others into a GUEST list; I accepted, the other two didn't reply. Today 2/19 I deleted both of the struck-guests. Now I am awaiting to hear from her if that "unlocked" her inability to sign-in. So far no email, so I assume she was too busy to read my email and try again.

There are NO OTHER new members added in weeks; just the 2 guests whose info was "struck-out" and I have since deleted on Tuesday! So what is causing the message to be generated if she is NOT the one?

What's my next step? Should I delete her as a member, then re-enter her again and let her accept?

I was hoping that Steve could uncover the cause since he implemented the required changes.

"Otherwise she will need to clear her cache (if that is the problem). " How does one clear a Cache?
If I don't know how, maybe she doesn't either.

I am having the exact same issue. Problem is, I am the site adminstrator for my club. It's an authentication issue for sure. So I leave the password blank, get the email, then get a message that this is not the most current email but there is no other. Completely frustrating. I am absolutely unable to log in. Any help is appreciated. I tried in IE and Chrome, no difference.

ddefazio: a member not being able to log in is not the same as an admin trying to change a password.
Please provide your club number

Thank you Brian. Still not working. When I click on the email link or even manually type it in, i get the same authentication error...There was an error with your login -- the Session ID attached to your e-mail (xYVcWU1xDx3hRRPrd4zvXYpPg) was not valid. Please check to make sure the full link from the most recent email was sent when clicked.

Do you have security software or email provider that modifies links in emails?

Does your email split the link on 2 lines?

Please post the entire email in this tread.

Clicking the link actually works for me, and shows the password reset for your user.

You have something installed locally that is modifying the link.

try clicking the link you posted

I was able to log in now. When I first get to the site, I have to click on the accept cookies policy. Then I can log in. It does not always give me this message to accept the cookies, probably because I cleared my cookies is why it showed up. Now I can log in just fine. There must be some issue with the cookies after a period of time, so I guess the fix is if I can't log in to clear cookies and try again.

Brian, if you are referring to the "SHE" in the original message posted by desplainestoastmasters (club # 1645), its Theresa M Arcega. (in my original attached PDF, I showed both the original Membership list and Guest list (though I since deleted to two struck-through names thinking that generated the message). I telephoned her tonight and she still has the issue when she quickly tried to login. I'll suggest clearing her browser cash and cookies. The other idea I had was to delete her as a member, and then add her again to force the acceptance. Should I try it?) BTW, I see another person posted the same issue in a new thread but she hasn't receive any reply to hers yet.

Please ask your member to read/check the message before she starts typing anything (that should be the message you originally reported - not an error).
Ask her to describe what happens after she has typed the first part of her email, name or username, and selected her name from the dropdown list that appears, entered her password and clicked "authenticate/login".

Do NOT delete her - all of her agenda history will be deleted too.

Thank you Pam and Brian for clearly resolving our issue. (I hadn't thought about clearing cache or cookies, since I don't regularly "house clean" when I shut down nightly.

Just got an email from my Treasurer (Theresa M Arcega) who reported that she can now log-in.
While she didn't say, I suspect she cleared her cache and cookies this time; when I telephoned her Friday and said she was not able to log in, I suspect she hadn't. (Suggesting my clearance of the two Guests from the Guest list had no bearing on resolving the problem,) I'm glad I hadn't deleted her entry - I forgot all about losing her FTH history of roles.

PS, I see there were multiple "Member log in" or "Member can't log in" threads started, all describing the same message. I hope you found them.
