My home club, Toastmasters Plus, club #5677, changed its name recently to Good Morning Toastmasters. We had been using the custom domain name of toastmastersplus.org but after the name change we bought a new domain name, goodmorningtoastmasters.org and registered it though GoDaddy as we had done with our prior domain name.

Yesterday I attempted to switch domain names by first, changing the domain name entry in the Custom Domain Name field on the Admin Console. Then I worked with tech support at GoDaddy to disable the toastmastersplus domain name and make sure that the goodmorningtoastmasters.org domain name had all the correct DNS settings to connect with our site here at FreeToastHost.

It has been well over 24 hours since we made these changes and the new domain name does not appear to be connecting to our site. I'm afraid that my attempt to change the setting on the admin console here did not work and I do not know how to get back to the console to correct the error.

Is there a way for me to get to my club website's admin console to make this change in custom domain name or is this something that will have to happen through tech support here?

Thanks for your help.

goodmorningtoastmasters.org is not setup correctly

the is no MX record
there is no A record for mail.goodmorningtoastmasters.org

Please follow the instructions in the documentation.
support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/dns-settings-overview

3 Class A

domain.ext A 50.19.253.65 (This directs internet traffic using your custom domain name to the FreeToastHost server.)
www.domain.ext A 50.19.253.65 (This lets you use www. with your custom domain name.)
mail.domain.ext A 50.19.253.65 (This is used with the MX record below to enable email to get to the FreeToastHost server for processing.)

1 MX record for mail

domain.ext MX-10 mail.domain.ext (This tells the registrar how to direct email to an email address containing the custom domain name.)

Brian,
Thanks for your quick reply. I have attached a screen print of the DNS manager page for our domain name as it stood after the changes I made yesterday. It looks to me like the records you cite are in place so I'm not sure where to go from here.

You have 2 entries for WWW
Cname and A remove the Cname
The MX record is wrong

The A entry for www needs to be corrected to just www
The entry for mail needs to be corrected to just mail.

Thanks, Brian.
I believe that I have made the corrections you listed. I hope the next step is to give the internet some time for the changes to be recognized.

Don't forget to put your new domain name in the custom domain box of the website admin console (basic settings)

Thanks, Pam.

I thought that I had already made that change before modifying the DNS records to point to the new url but it's also possible that the custom domain name didn't save. Now when I try to navigate to the goodmorningtoastmasters.org page I get the Request a Website page here at FreeToastHost. I have no idea how to check that the custom domain name entry on our admin console is correct - and I suspect that it's not - since I can't bring up the website.

I this a correction that someone in FTH tech support can do for me?

5677.toastmastersclubs.org/ will always work, go there log in and change your custom domain name.

Thanks, Brian.

I did this and got to our admin console but could not save the change. When I tried to save the new domain name I got the error message shown in the screen capture attached.

I entered the new custom domain name with the .org extension. Is that the right way to do it, or is something else going on?

Thanks.

Anytime you see the datatransfer error click the reload link at the bottom of your site.

I have now clicked the reload link several times when attempting to change the entry in the custom domain name field and every single time the reload takes me to the FreeToastHost Request a Website page. When I do this I get the data transmission error message. I click on cancel on that popup, close out the admin console in order to click the reload link and then I see a message window from FTH saying that the alias or custom domain name has been changed. But when I reload the website the old custom domain name is still in the basic settings. Clearly I'm doing something wrong and I apologize for being a complete idiot but I'm really struggling here.

Thanks very much. I'm curious: what was the last hangup that was preventing me from saving the new custom domain name?

You still had the old domain name in the custom domain box. You have to remove and save first. then login using the club number and add the new domain.

Thanks. I had no idea that it was a two-step process but by that point I was sure the problem was something simple like this. I appreciate all the help you gave me on this.
