Hi,
When logging in to the Admin Console, I received the message "We were unable to create / renew a HTTPS certificate for your custom domain: www.toastofpetaluma.org ...etc." dated 1/23/2021. I've checked the links provided as well as our domain name provider. Our domain name does not expire for another 7 months and is automatically renewed. Can you help me understand and fix the issue?

Thank you Brian, for your help. When the "FreeToastHost System Warning] *** IMPORTANT! ***" message appeared in the Admin Console, I could not find where the issue was. Now that you've said it fixed itself, I cannot find where to see that the problem is solved, except that you've let me know. Is there a way I can personally verify the problem fixed itself?

Thanks,
Renee

Hi, Renee,

It looks like the initial issue may have just happened on January 23rd as a one-off activity when the FTH server was trying to do too many things at once. We use a free third party service called LetsEncrypt! to generate the HTTPS certificates, and there is a back-and-forth interaction between that service and the FTH server when the cert is renewed. Our renewal process is ran once a week, so your cert was generated on January 30th without issue.

You can always verify that your website has a valid HTTPS cert by looking for the lock icon to the left of the URL in the browser's address box and then clicking it to see the resulting pop-up (below is what I see in Google Chrome):

If you click on the "Certificate (Valid)" text, you should see another pop-up that tells you when your cert expires (every 90 days but we renew it every 60 days to ensure there is some safety time in case of a renewal issue).

Thank you so much, Steve, for taking the extra time to explain this to me! You and the whole team never cease to impress me. FTH is a fantastic product and I'm very grateful for it!

Thanks,
Renee
