Folks:Hi.  I’m the president of In-Person Toastmasters, Club Number: 3474192 in District 38. I’m writing today because FTH does not recognize my e-mail address.  Our District expert has exhausted all his remedies, but to no avail.  When he tries to enter "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." (my e-mail address for the last 20+ years), the system refuses to accept it.  I can neither send nor receive. Can you please make whatever changes are necessary to allow me to send and receive e-mails to and from my club?   I would appreciate it greatly.Any questions, please let me know.- Ken Ken V. Krawchuk, DTM2President, In-Person ToastmastersClub 3474192, District 38

Your primary email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You are trying to access your secondary email. The system will send notifications to the primary and secondary emails but relies on the primary for logging in. If you want to log in with the ken@ email, make that your primary in Edit Your Profile.

We did that, and it did not work.  What it did was complain about This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as not being recognized in some SMTP list somewhere.  We put in the gmail account so that I could at least receive e-mails, but I cannot send them.

Can you try to add my e-mail address and see what happens?  Maybe then you could fix it.

Thanks,

- Ken

You are hosting in a datacenter that allows spammers, who have spammed FTH and the IP for your server was blocked.

I have removed the block for now.

Made This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. the only address and sent a test message twelve hours ago, did not work.  Spam folder empty too.

I don't understand your comment about servers.  I upgraded to a new server several weeks ago, so whatever problem there is, it spans servers.  Do you know which server it's complaining about?

You are hosting with welcome.com a notorious host of spammers.
Your server IP is in a subnet that has spammed FTH.

I'm not sure I understand.  I've never heard of Welcome.com.  As I mentioned, I changed servers last month, so the problem spans servers.  My e-mail is through Namecheap.com.

Regardless, what do we do to rectify things?

Your email service is accepting email from FTH, if you are not receiving the emails you need to talk to your email provider.

I just tested This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. using the FTH email address checker and it tests "Ok" although it takes quite a while to respond.  The time lag was also verified by using a 3rd party email checker website called CheckTLS: www.checktls.com/TestReceiver   That website also is reporting an issue with one of your security certificates for the KenK.org domain.
When you say "it does not work", what are the exact steps that are not working?   Exactly who is sending the test email and to what exact email address?  If the email is being sent by someone who is not a member of your club to a members only club email address, then yes that email would be blocked as spam prevention measure--this is per design & how it has always been.  When testing email, it always needs to be either sent by someone who is a member of your club (or whitelisted) or it needs to be sent to one of the publicly accessible email addresses (e.g., an officer email address, admin email address, or the contact- address if enabled).

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm sending from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I'm the club president, as can be seen at ipt.toastmastersclubs.org/meetourmembers.html.  When I send something, I get an error a few days later (see below), then after several more days it tells me the sending failed.

Hope this helps!

Your mail host must be doing something behind the scenes. We are not blocking the published IP for your server or the server name you provided

Not sure I understand how to proceed.  I've been using that email address for twenty years.  It works everywhere, and has always worked everywhere, except when I send stuff to the FTH lists.   I changed servers last month, so whatever problem exists, it's server independent.  So, speaking as a lifelong IT professional, it's my opinion that the problem is somewhere on the FTH side.

What are our next steps?

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. does not show up anywhere in our email logs.   We log everything regarding email and retain those logs for over a month.  If we processed an email from that email address, it would show up in our email logs.   These logs have been in use for over ten years--they are pretty well established in the system and mature functionality.

Also, we process over 300,000 emails a week.  If we had an issue of this sort with the FTH server, it would present itself on a much wider scale than just your email address.

Therefore, I tend to agree with Brian.

Hi Ken,

I have a particular interest in this thread due to some difficulties I have had with email failures which I suspect are down to my nameserver host.

You said you are an IT professional so let's just ensure we are on the same page:

You have your own domain, hosted with Namecheap.com. Your DNS records are hosted on their nameservers.
When you send an email from your domain it goes onto your domain's web server hosted on Namecheap.com. It then goes into a queue for sending on their server and attempts to send to the recipient's address. This has failed for toastmastersclubs.org addresses.
You have also said that you do not receive emails from toastmastersclubs.org addresses, however those emails did not get bounced back to toastmastersclubs.org or there would be a record on the toastmastersclubs.org system.

Additionally, Brian has has successfully sent email to your address that you have not received.

If it was me, I would be looking at my mail server at this stage to see what is logged on there. Your mail server is hosted so you would need to speak to the hosts.

...but as IT professionals we like to delve a little deeper, don't we?

mxtoolbox.com

IP address for your mail server is 199.188.206.63.

Blacklist lookup. The IP address of your mail server is blacklisted on UCEPROTECTL2 and UCEPROTECTL3. This means that email would appear be intercepted in flight! Why? Because any mail server that uses blacklists to protect itself (and I hope that is all mail servers) would not even handle email from your server and the details of it would not appear in logs. What this also means is you don't get to see what fails. You only get to see what works.

There are two ways to deal with this. One way is to add your email server or email address to whitelists on recipients mail servers - this isn't a solution since your problem is global. The best way is to get your email address removed from the blacklists. That is the first thing that needs to happen.

Brian mentioned that the subnet that your mail server is hosted on is found regularly in blacklists. The reputation (and I use the term technically) of your domain is fundamental to the success of the services you run from it and is being damaged by the users of the organisation who hosts your domain or by individuals who are exploiting your domain.

If you speak to Namecheap.com they might have a solution. If I was a service provider I would configure mail servers to use SPF, DKIM and DMARC and suggest to clients that they tweak the settings as they need to. See  www.higherlogic.com/blog/spf-dkim-dmarc-email-authentication/ for more information. You currently do not have anything configured to validate your email address or server.

As a last resort you might choose to move to a different hosting company to avoid these issues.
