Our website received the following Msg> [2023-09-30 08:06:21 GMT, FreeToastHost System Warning]
The FreeToastHost server was unable to create / renew a HTTPS certificate for your custom domain:  www.hgpmt.org
  • I tested accessing our Domain name using Https; www.hgpmt.org seems to work fine
  • We are club 01294652.  The possible causes were listed as:
  • a. Your custom domain's DNS records are set up incorrectly on your registrar's website. >The DNS entries on our end have not changed in some time.
  • b. You are using domain forwarding--it is *not* supported. >Nothing has changed on our end.
  • c. Your custom domain has expired. (If so, you must address this with your registrar.) > Our Domain Name doesn't expire until Oct 24
  • d. The custom domain listed in the admin console is no longer being used. > Our Domain name, HGPMT.org is still in use
  • e. The FTH server was temporarily unable to connect with the free LetsEncrypt! service to create the certificate.(If so, this could be resolved automatically in a week.)  >How would we know if this last listed possible cause might be the issue?
Are there any new procedures on the FTH end that might cause this problem?

There are no new FTH procedures. This is not uncommon. The way to know that it's 'e' is being confident your domain is configured correctly. The cert renewal runs automatically several weeks before it's due to expire for exactly this reason. The next automatic renewal will likely succeed. We can run a manual renewal for your site if it misses on consecutive automatic renewals.

This does occasionally happen with LetsEncrypt!    Because it is a free service that produces certs that only last 90 days, their server gets slammed with traffic sometimes and basically cannot handle any more cert requests.  This is why our use of their free service is set up the way that it is... we try to renew certs early and we warn clubs w/ custom domains if we were not able to complete the renewal.  However, as Richard points out, even in that case we may succeed on the next attempt a week later and we can also try to intervene.

The warning is just to make you aware we are having a (temporary) problem.
