Is there any way to change the date format? It seems to default to yyyy-mm-dd

Jane that is the International standard for dates yyyy-mm-dd. It does not get affected by localization standards.

I agree with Jane, the format may be international but it is awkward to say the least in the U.S.

LOVE these new variables. :cheer:

One thing at a time. Date formats are localization... That will be handled separately.

I know, and it's my preferred format in a number of situations, but it still looks weird on the home page. As it is, I sometimes get comments about the date format on the sign-up sheet (which I think is an OK place to use it).

It would be helpful if I had a starting list of date formats for the system to support...
  1. yyyy-mm-dd
  2. yyyy/mm/dd
  3. mm-dd-yyyy
  4. mm/dd/yyyy
  5. MMM dd, yyyy (where MMM is like Aug Sept etc.)
What else?

Excel has a fairly comprehensive list of Date formats, some of which may work.

dd/mm/yyyy, dd/mm/yy, dd-mm-yyyy etc are widely used outside of the US. As Marc mentioned, they are in excel (and other) spreadsheets.

I'd like to be able to do something like "20 August", but I can imagine that might be beyond the bounds of what this feature will support.

My personal favorites are "August 19" or even "Saturday August 19." The year is unnecessary if you're describing the next meeting. No one would think the meeting would be a year from now!

P. S. I am in California.

"Saturday August 19."

There are a number of cases where that will not work due to space concerns. As a default format, I will consider short formats only, such as strictly numeric formats or using a 3 letter month abbreviation.

This may take a week or two, since I would need to find all the places that said format should be applied.

I know that date formats can be a bit of a nightmare, and I'm not expecting anything quickly. We've managed fine without it so far, and will continue to do so for a bit longer.

The point I would like to clarify is that in many parts of the world, the day comes first, as in 20 August, and I'd like to see this included.

Personally, I prefer the international standard of yyyy-mm-did as it keeps sorting easier when exported regardless of whether it is a csv, word, etc.

I agree that the international format aids sorting. I use it in spreadsheets for that very reason.

Maybe we need to consider first where and how the formats are going to be used.

If they're going to appear on the home page or directions page of a site, I would not want to say, for example:

Our next meeting is on 2107-08-22.

If it's a list of upcoming or previous meetings, that may be a different matter.

Look at the following ... this is currently available in the Brian test website (and my development website)...

Right now, it is just changing the format of the hit counter date. It could be applied other places. We may want *two* date formats, a short format, and a long format, like Excel does. That difference would allow me to provide a longer date if space allows.

Eventually, if I released this date format setting, I would probably just show the current date in the various formats in the selection drop down. That is more intuitive and simpler to understand (but more coding to implement it).
