HI Guys, I am Wellington (NZ) Toastmasters VP / Education, Daniel Malpass and am part of a newly elected committee that has just inherited our website, it hasn't been updated or used for a long time and we are not sure when it was last meaningfully updated or monitored and who was then responsible for it, so we find ourselves with little institutional or passed on knowledge of the site.,

I'm thinking about purchasing a new domain name for our website 1046.toastmastersclubs.org but do not know how to connect it to our site, do we do it through a redirect on a toasmasters site, or through a redirect done through a domain administration site?

I'd be grateful for an information on that

thanks very much, Daniel Malpass

We can help you get this sorted out. However, we will always refer you to our documentation first so that we are not endlessly repeating ourselves on stuff that is already documented.

There is documentation on this support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/dns-settings-overview

Our documentation index is here: support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc

Your existing content is stored in our MySQL database and associated with your clubnumber. You can wipe it out or do whatever you wish with it. We always need your clubnumber to assist you ... that is what everything is tied to.

So... the overall process to follow for a custom domain name is ... choose a registrar (we don't do that), choose a domain name that is not used, and then pay the registrar the fee for the registration. Remember...it expires, so save the relevant info for renewal. Then, use the doc above to help you set up the DNS records on your registrar's website so that the domain name "points" to our server. If you have set that up correctly, then when you type your domain name in the Basic Settings tab of the Admin Console, you will cause a https cert to be generated for your domain free of charge. (we handle that part)
