Dear,

I usually upload pdf files in our website for club's newsletters, magazines and photo galleries. Currently when someone clicks the link from the concerned page it automatically downloads the file instead of viewing it. How to prevent users to download & print and instead allow view only.

Thank you very much. However, the problem is partly solved. Now after viewing, the user can still download the file. Is there any way to prevent users to download and print the file?

Did you change the direct URL as shown in the documentation that Brian referred you to?

"If you want a file to display directly in the browser, change the part that says "action=download" to "action=inline". This is particularly useful for pdf files."

Click on the PDF icon to see the direct URL and change the action = in that field.

Yes, I changed "action=download" to "action=inline". This facilitated viewing the file directly. However, it didn't prevent the user to download or print. I remember I visited a website in which I could neither download nor print the document. This was disabled by the owner. I don't know how!

I do not know of any way that we can support that.

Generally, preventing certain operations with PDF files requires special security features that require you to produce the file with Adobe Professional or the equivalent. In other words, what you observed was more likely related to how the PDFs were *produced* rather than the means to view them.

I know this because I have personally produced and worked with encrypted and high-security PDF files produced via Adobe Professional in the FDA-regulated space.

As we do not generally produce the PDF files you are providing for download, there really is nothing we can do about preventing how they are used.
